it is not racist to hold these opinions, it is quite normal, and believe it or not they are based on the undeniable fact that people do look, behave and deport themselves in their own unique way, ways that others may like or dislike, just as they are entitled to.

    this is not racism.

racism is discriminating against people because of their appearance, ethnicity etc.etc.

if the hmong are people to whom tidiness and cleanliness is anathema, then to employ them as cleaners is inviting disappointment for both parties and it is certainly not racist to refuse them employment in that capacity. they are simply unqualified for that kind of work, in the same way as a blind doctor is unlikely to be able to perform successful surgery.
Not many dental surgeons among them I'm told

Yes , but at the time who was the wrong side? The communist uprising govt? In 1954 lao gained independence from the cheese eating surrender monkeys and became a constitutional monarchy but the US wanted to prevent the pathet lao from.taking control of the country. Some 30 000 hmong were employed in this secret army. Maybe the Lao have long memories and can't let it go? Fair enough.

    That's terrible.

Imagine employing someone for the princely rate of 9 pounds a day and then a year down the line, seeing the space behind your fridge resemble Mendips interior garden walls?

That's good money. Many a person would cut yer hand off for that around around here. In fact none of them are worth it. They start off well but soon lose interest. Any building work I give to a German guy living nearby. Absolutely brilliant worker and only charges 600 Baht a day. Only problem is he's no good at cleaning.

Unless one is in a position to personally train a suitable skivvy, or get one who has been put through the process successfully, I have to say hiring a decent cleaner or maid is a tricky option in SE Asia. The problem arises not from any congenital incompetence but from the cultural background whereby Asian peasants simply do not give a flying fuck about the domestic arrangements within the home and see no point in adopting a western house proud ethic.

The thing is it’s all about face, it’s down to appearances and what the world can see of you, it’s what you look like and what you have attained is what matters. They scrub up well, and worship the car they have procured, they have the latest appropriate fashion and will flaunt themselves in public to their heart’s content. But the two bedroom grotbox they inhabit is a shithole with a kitchen area only a slattern could tolerate and no one gives a fuck, they don’t home entertain and the world outside never gets to catch a glimpse. Hey, why you care, no one will see.

    Asians innit.

yes, yes. See you've never squared how a self professied educated intelligent pikey manged to fuk up so badly with your meagre pot stuck in Pattaya with no contingency plan. I've tried to squard that circle and the only conclusion i can draw is that you are in fact a norvern oirsh moron who got suckered by a bug muncher into squandering your retirement for a flat in whoreville. Har har har.

Our current maid is my sister in law.

Just like every other maid before her, she's about 4 feet tall and has an inability to clean anything above eye level.

I guess it all depends on your partner or spouse. My wife is extremely clean and organized and she would never consider hiring a maid even if for 500 bht a day..Why? It takes more time to show them what you want cleaned versus just doing it yourself as she says. My wife is one that believes that a house should be clean and tidy as well as all the restrooms. If you just keep it clean, the upkeep is minimum. Her 2 sisters are the same and they aren't married to a westerner so you can't use that as an excuse. Its just personal upbringing and hygiene.

Ours just comes once a week. We keep the house tidy, she just needs to sterilize everything and deal with a mountain of ironing.

It doesn't cost me anything, if my Mrs wants to 3rd party some of her duties that's her business.
