    Where were you when...?

    JFK was killed

    Princess Diana died

    Michael Jackson died

I was in my dad's ballbag when JFK was shot, but for Diana I had been in a nightclub called 42nd Street in Manchester before getting a Joe Baxi back to my mum and dad's. I was watching Sky News when it came on and I knocked on my mum and dad's bedroom to casually announce "Diana is dead." I then went to bed, but my mum got up and watched telly for the rest of the night.

I recall that we also got a day off for the funeral of Diana, but the pubs didn't open until after, so we had to watch it at home in the morning. Boo! Hiss!

For Jacko I was on my sofa in Phnom Penh. Went down the boozer shortly after and it was obviously the talk of all the crowd. I vaguely remember his songs being played in every bar we went in that night and for about a week after.

    Good man!

The true story is that you were sat at home baking shortbread though, isn't it?

The three seminal moments in our lifetimes unless you (or anyone else) have any suggestions.

I think Norton was just born for the outbreak of WW2.

Don't expect him to remember much.

    Primary school
Can't remember, but somewhere in Rangsit and probably at work give that it was a Thursday. Recall coworkers acting like a close family member had snuffed it, which I found odd.

So, basically, we need someone who was alive when JFK was shot.

I've been to where it actually happened, mind.

    Or been driven past anyway.

For JFK, just had moved to San Anselmo California from Saudi. In school and an announcement came the president had been shot. Everybody got sent home. My main memory was no TV only coverage of the assassination. Woke up Saturday morning hoping for cartoons, but no, saw Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald live.

    Diana, here

Jackson here, I remember reading the news early on CNN and being quite shocked.

    Cheers, AO.

Your cartoon bit made me chuckle.

I suppose another one would be the queen carking it, but she was nearly 100 years old however long she had been a part of our lives.

I was in my living room in Cairo wishing I was somewhere else.

    First HJ.
    First BJ.
    First shag.

Though I may be misunderstanding the word seminal.

    Not alive

    No idea

    No idea.

Wnen Ronald Reagan was shot I was in my elementary school's principal's office waiting for a paddling when the nurse came in, called the principal's out of the office. Along come one o the AV nerds with a TV on a cart like they had in US schools back then and plugs the TV into the office wall and turns it to live coverage of the shooting.

The principal sent me back to class, I never did get my paddling. The recess lady was not pleased hearing I escaped my paddling.

So the assassination of a president and the death of a Princess and former Queen to be is not important but the death of a pedo registers?

    ooookay.

What about when the queen died then, snubby?

    Cos she was THE queen.

The other one I have in my life is Kurt Cobain.

I was at my mate's house and my mum actually rang the house to let me know.

I probably should have included the queen in my original post.

World reaction upon confirmation of her being brown bread.

Maybe the outbreak of the Vietnam War too or the missile crisis.

Both well before my time, mind.

Along with an ex that died suddenly at 19, we were together for a month or so at age 14, the death of Kurt Cobain had the biggest effect than any other death in my lifetime. I'm lucky that no immediate family or friends, I do actually have both, believe it or not have left this mortal coil thus far.

We had tickets to see Nirvana on the 5th April I think in Cardiff of all places. 2 of us were going overseas with an older friend to see them, then they booked a gig in Dublin for the 8th April, and we bought tickets for that too. Alas it wasn't to be.

I think we're a similar age (maybe I'm a couple of years older) and we both clearly felt that teenage thing with Nirvana and Kurt Cobain.

Morrissey was another with me. I remember talking about him in a bar in Bangkok with an older Smiths fan and he said to me "you'll grow out of it eventually."

How right he was. I think he's a tool these days.

I often wonder if I would have gone the same way with Nirvana though. I loved that band and him.

Never got the chance to find out.
