In 1968 I was racing up and down the Qua Viet river in a plastic ski boat when Martin Luther King was assassinated. Like some here I could care less about where I was when celebrities died but MLK's death was something that had a profound impact on me and my way of thinking.
Prior to then, I had no opinion or exposure to racism in America but after observing the reaction and speaking to my many black shipmates I came to abhore racisim and changed from politically nuetral on the issue to what could only be described, by some, a far left looney.

Because responding to your nonsense equates to stalking? Right.
I was working on UK AWACS sims at the time.
However, I was going to start work for FAA in October based in Minneappolis. I was replacing someone who was about to retire and everything was organised to start. 9/11 meant everything was called off at the last munute. I had already handed in my notice and now had no new job. It's the reason I ended up working in Germany instead of the US.
^ As well as the NATO E3-A AWACS, the UK purchased 7 E3-D aircraft with a GE engine fit. The French also had 4 of this type. Replaced by the E-7 a few years ago.

My much older sister's long-term BF was in the US airforce, stationed in Alcanbury, possibly spelled wrong, as his father and older and brother were, so it was a family tradition. Went in to school late as we watched the announcements or first videos on the news, and the teacher gave me a right bollocking saying it could go on for months and was nothing special. I got a cool gasmask and combats (army trousers) out of it.
