    I like the BiB

So I'm edging past the moat in rush hour traffic minding my own business when I hear massive thud. Look behind me and there's this blimp of a woman on a Scoopy who's just driven into the back of the rollerskate. Obviously didn't take her weight into account judging braking. Her and her passenger are having a good laugh.

Anyway, I'm about to pull over and call the insurance company and the bitch flies past me and fucks off into the distance.

    You can imagine my anger.

There was nowhere to stop anyway, so I drove home, called the insurance and pulled the Dashcam video. Sadly it wasn't clear enough to make out her plate number.

The insurance guy comes and looks at the dent (complete with pink paint from her Barbie mudguard) and says it will probably cost Bt10k to fix and I'd have to pay the excess PLUS Bt1,000 for it being a Hit and Run!

So I asked what other choices I had and he said "Make a police report and maybe they find her".

So I thought WTF and went down to the cop shop with him and filed a report. The sarge in charge looked at the dashcam video and said "Can't see number" so I said "Don't you have your own cameras?" to which he replied, "No, we'll ask Tessaban".

So I go home thinking I'm lumped with the bill, and blow me down if less than 24 hours later they call me to the cop shop.

There is said blimp with a face like a smacked arse and two of her mates. "Not fucking laughing now are you" I thought.

I was trying to decide whether to fix her with a steely glare or a cheeky grin, but in the end I opted for a dismissive glance.

So I sit down with the insurance guy and the copper comes over and says "What do you want?".

I said "For her to pay to repair my car".

He looked a bit stunned. "Nothing else?".

    "Naaah".

Anyway at the point the insurance guy takes over and starts filling in the forms, then he says to me "Do you want compensation while the car is being repaired?".

"No, that's OK" I said generously.

After that he said "OK, take this to the garage and they will repair the car. We will recover the money from her. You can go now".

Obviously I shook hands with him and the dedicated gumshoes who hunted her down.

I left with a gleeful memory of the fat bitch with a face like a smacked arse. I don't know if they fined her for the hit and run, but I hope so.

    Moral of the story:

All this bollocks about the police not doing any work for farang or favouring the Thai is not as clear cut as people make it out to be.

    * Also shout out to Roojai insurance. Not only are they much cheaper than the others being solely online, but their man was on the scene in half and hour and kept on the case until it was resolved. Top notch service I thought.

Why didn’t you ask for compensation while getting repairs?

Because I don't need it. I never drive when I'm out drinking anyway. I can do without the car for a few days.

Quite right ‘Arry, well posted. All this negativism is unacceptable and an inaccurate portrayal of the police.

It is as far as I'm concerned. I had an accident with a Thai guy on a motor cycle who only had one leg. If it hadn't been for me having a dashcam I was fcuked. Cutting things short. Luckily the Insurance guy accompanied me to the cop shop or I was done for. After watching the camera play back the cops decided the motorcyclist was at fault. They said that due to the guy being so poor they were not going to fine him 1400, or so, baht. I was not made aware of being able to claim compensation. I had to claim from my insurers and personally pay for the car fluids that the repairers need to replace/change. They are not covered due to accidents unfortunately.

PS: I have wrote on here before about my accident and published the dash cam footage. Can't be bothered to search for it.

Don’t be so bloody silly Prag, of course it was your fault. If you hadn’t been in Thailand it wouldn’t have happened.

I once spent 2 hours in a dental chair having root canal in udon thani .when I got out I was gagging for a beer and downed about 6 Leo's in the space of 30 minutes. Lo and behold the bib were around the corner armed with sophisticated breathalysers and I immediately failed and was placed in the tray of there vigo and as it was a Friday night it was looking like a weekend in the monkey house. I finally got to negotiate with them and was released ,escorted to my car , handshakes all round and I was about 4000 baht lighter. They even told me there was another breatho nearby and I should take a different direction. Of course I didn't drive the car back to the hotel, got a tul tuk. Gotta love a bit of corruption for very little $ especially when I was in the wrong. Probably not what you want to hear Mr sausages , it's not all doom and gloom mate. Get on the piss. Let yer hair down if there's any left?
Hell you can even have a bong legally now. What's not to like.

I was told that the standard compulsory insurance for Thais does not cover third party damage when they're at fault.

However, it's the police's job to decide that, they simply apportion blame and let the insurance company deal with it.

So because I'm not at fault, the insurance company take care of it and they will recover the costs from Moby Dick. Had they not found her, it would have been a different result.

While I was there, some Indian chap was having a good moan. He reckons they were stitching him up because they said he was at fault even though he claims his dashcam showed he wasn't.

Which meant he had to claim for his car and pay for the damage to the other one himself.

Having said that, the way he described the accident to me it sound like he'd pulled out in front of someone and they'd hit him, so hard to tell.

    Not that I cared.
