This lovely pair appeared on the balcony yesty and make the most gorgeous flittering whirring noise with their wings, like a hummingbird.

Could not get a good photo since the trees in the background were throwing off the autofocus

They came back today and I was able to get my autofocus sharper

You can recognise the curved pointed beak of a honey-eater

These are yellow-spotted honey-eaters. Although this one's cheek spots are crescent shaped which makes them quite unusual.

The blue-faced honey-eaters were in posts 28 and 48 and they are more striking but they did not come anywhere near the balcony

This is an equinox bird taken from the front with my phone camera.

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20240921_202159-jpg

By the time I had run inside and fetched my Olympus he had turned around.

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-p1010036c-jpg

Equinox bird is not its real name. He is really a Pacific Baza.

I call him an equinox bird because these photo were taken on 21st September 2024 and the only other time I have ever seen this bird was on 21st September 2022

This was my best shot back then.

Did you look on the ground outside?

You have some fine birds around the place and a good camera to catch them with.

He was not there so either he recovered and flew off or his lifeless body was carried off by a scavenger

This juvenile magpie has a strange manner of balcony fence perching, like a roosting chicken, of which I have never seen another magpie partake

Fed the magpies today and they came closer to me than ever before ... <1m away

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20250529_171523-jpg

My ornithological day blossomed further with an invitation to tiny 44kg Aussie lady to meet her parrot.

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20250529_203906-jpg

I could not get the fooker in focus due to the cage bars. He did not really take to me and scuttled into his hideaway retreat before we could get properly acquainted.

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20250529_203910-jpg

I thought I had the bird whisperer touch with my balcony butcher birds, but parrots are a breed apart.

T44 had the entire (very large) house lit with candles - hallway, lounge, and bedroom.

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20250529_214103-jpg

It was kind of cool since that was what life was like before all the mod cons, except most people would have had fewer candles.

I was fed fresh passion-fruit to accompany the passionate candlelit ambience and tickle my taste buds

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20250529_204050-jpg

A working Wurlitzer was wired-up with wi-fi in the corner and was piping in a soft medley of 90's alternative rock music which got my memory buds fluttering, as I tried to name each song and artist with the tip of my tongue.

I was making my coffee when I heard a slight bump noise

Went downstairs to the hammock and another little honey-eater had crashed in to the window and knocked himself silly and was seeing stars.

    Teakdoor Twitchers Society-20250602_155833c-jpg

He recovered his senses in a few minutes and then took off, only to return 15 seconds later and fly into the same window again...

He was still OK and did not return for a 3rd go, fortunately
