    Some great family favourites there...

Frankie Howard take me straight back to the days of Up Pompeii
Tony Hancock's half hour with Sid James and Hattie Jacques and others.
Kenneth Williams and the Carry on crew
    The Dick Emery show
    Ken Dodd and the Diddymen
    Les Dawson
    ?
    Dave Allen
    ?
The Two Ronnies was also a family favourite and my Dad loved Steptoe and Son but I think that was just to annoy my mother...

^ Jeeeeeez! You were playing lego in the 90's? I remember replacing the centre piston of a Kawasaki 250 triple on the side of the road back in the 70's!! Famous for overheating, easy to strip and replace ... Those 2-strokes bring back some fantastic memories, the Suzuki GT-185 with it's electric start, was the bike I passed my test on, the GT-250 and GT-380 and then the steam kettle 750. Then there was the Yamaha RD-200 and the Kawasaki 250 triple, all crazy fantastic to ride. Wasn't long before getting the licence and moving on to the four strokes...

The Honda Four hundred four was just out of this world fantastic back in the mid 70's, i had a red Mk1 that had a rev sweet spot better than any modern vibrator for the g/f on the back, were ready before you were in those days...

Then the Honda 750 K6 to really get them going, g/f loved it far more than the F1 or F2, you got this buzzzzzz that went right through you at a certain revs and you just kept it there for the fun...GT380 had something similar.

my first build bike, in bits. Had a blues brothers paint job on the tank - took me nearly a year to rebuild but was a sweet little motor, chipped it in with cash for a Honda 750 but always wished i'd kept it.

    My first was Fortran.

I remember taking cards to be read and being told to check back in a couple hours for the result.

There were so many other kids doing the same and only a couple of punch card readers.

    A BIKE !!!

I didnt get a BMX this could have been me
I had 7 paper rounds. 4 before school and 3 after.

The problem with taking my bmx was that it's not so simple to jump walls to consecutive terraced houses or you'd have to keep backtracking to get the bike.

    Roller blades were the answer.

£105 per week tax free at 12 years old in 1994 and it complimented my 'sponsor collecting' business quite nicely too.

Fortran was my first language as well but I only had to suffer the card punching at school before we moved on to punch tape. We used a manual X-Y machine to punch the cards similar to this:

I still stick to 80 column width for my code even now. I ended up using F77 professionally well into the late 90's but I was mainly an assembler programmer back in the 80's and early 90's.

I still use the vi editor, didn't even bother moving to EMACS let alone the modern code editors of today.

    =======================

I found a teletype similar to the one we moved on to at school...

    Do do do you remember?-vintage-western-union-teletype-machine-vintage

We could also read punch tape with a feeder under the phone dial. We were allowed to dial into the GCHQ computer on Friday afternoons to run our programs. It was the first computer I ever crashed!

This is a similar IBM big blue set up , we had rooms like tennis courts and huge heavy disc drives

As a former smoker I can recall when they were advertised on TV and ads everywhere , largely to help switch brand as almost all males and many women smoked. I lived near huge tobacco factories and rented a flat from the Wills family.

Consulate were esp popular with the ladies and to mix with rougher stuff !

No but we did at home, and had a similar clock too! What my Gran's did have was a phone that looked like this (albeit in a cleaner state) and their phone number was 37U. 3 shorts and a long ring in the homestead meant the call was for them.
