How is it anti-American to criticise the US (lack of) healthcare system? I think it is pro American actually- if you think a nation consists of it's People, that is. Sure, I don't mind having a sly dig- considering that for 8 years the Obama administration tried to reform the system, and basically failed. Do you want us to copy the US model?

Heh. My 'complaint' here is the opposite- see my post #20 above. Don't see why the taxpayer needs to fund me to get my toenails trimmed and buffed 5 times a year, or whatever other indulgences they throw at me. And ringing me up to chase me about it ('cus I don't bother) is just OTT! I can indeed think of more efficient uses for the taxpayers dollar. So very different to the states.

What has this thread got to do with the U.S. healthcare system?

You would have to follow the posts, and be aware of TD's propensity to drift a bit in conversation threads cujo. But I have learned something too- Canadian healthcare varies between provinces. Apparently in BC, that leads some citizens to self amputate growths on their tongue. Over here, they would probably send you for Counselling for even having such thoughts.

I would have had to sit in line for 2 hours minimum. Just to spend $40 on some medicine that had to be proven ineffective before it was deemed safe enough to use
