I found that a dead tree had fallen on my power line and tore it off one of the poles which is bad luck but I am also lucky it tore of the upper pole and not the lower pole as the lower pole starts a 120m span across the creek that would have been a disaster if it had been downed.

It did not snap the line so I still have power at the house and I had time before it got dark to jury-rig some poles to hold the cable higher off the ground as it passes over the driveway.

Got the tree off with the chainsaw. Now just have to figure out how to winch the enormously heavy cable back up to a height where it can be reattached to the pole.

Whether to turn the power off at the road before or not....hmmmmm

Glass if half empty again as the lower pole is revealed to also have its pegs snapped off but the glass is also still half full since the power cable only fell as far as the telegraph hoop where it got itself snagged up so I am not out of power

But this does present a more formidable challenge and I may be forced to wave the white flag and get a pole linesman in to sort this out

The hooks just snapped and went flying on both the affected poles. Could not find them

All done with a chainsaw as I could not be arsed digging out and rigging up my jigger

The anticipatory tension is palpable so I feel it is my duty to resolve this cliff-hanging puzzler...

The item is tied to the top rung of the ladder

Thus enabling a firm rest against a round power pole

I also fitted a string remote control

This allows the doofer to be extended into position while still standing on the ground

Although I then found that if you tie it tightly to the top rung that the remote control become redundant as it can be hoisted with doofer already in place

I need a bigger one for my big ladder

So I thought I would do a pro job with my jigger saw

Notch is narrower since the poles are thinner higher up

A final pro touch was added with a strip of rubber from a torn inner tube to add grip to the rear groove that sits against the ladder rung

I dreamed up this device using my own small monkey brain power running on economy mode while waiting to fall asleep

Loops it's not clear why you are doing this.

^ If one goes to post 205 near the top of this page, one may deduce that Looper is himself going to reaffix the power line (which presumably carries 240 volts) onto the pole, rather than employing a linesman to do so, but at the end of post 204 is musing as to whether to turn the power off at the road before or not. (how ?)

Good luck with that, Looper. More accidents happen with ladders than many people realize. Despite your nifty string and wood addition, that ladder still may slide sideways and then twist, dumping you off. They're treacherous bloody things.

Yes, up to this point I would also harbour your reservations SD.

But once you see the coup'de'grace move with the ratchet strap I think you will find my ladder to be a rock-steady perch.

No indeedy. I respectric the electric and the power is always off before I shoot up my pole. The meterbox is at the road with separate circuit breaker switches for the line to the shed and the line to the house.

Got around another month here and the last few days have seen one of the fridge freezers not being as cold or freezy as it was.

Turned the dial in both fridge and freezer up to 11.

Freed up space around the venty opening things in the freezer so the circulation is perfectimo. Moved a lot of stuff to the bigger non-everyday fridge freezer.

Checked the door seals, but all sealed seally, seally well.


Doesn't seem to have worked. Both the separate fridge and freezer are not as cold as before.

The kid's shabu pork slices etc in the freezer are a bit soft and bend a bit etc etc.

Fridge is probably 4 years old and is the smaller 'everyday' one in the property. Sticker says 228 liters, 8.1 cubic foot.


Gas bottle?

Something else?

Test. Capful of water placed in freezer at 13:53.

Will update levels of frozenness every hour.
