I'm already teaching online for more than 2 years now. I earn more teaching online than my new employer will pay me to teach online. I've politely told them that if they don't sort out the visa, then teaching online for them is not something that I will do, (since I'm already doing it!). Anyway... er.... back to Pattaya for the moment while I wait this out.
Groping women when you're old is fine - everyone thinks you're senile
Will your face to face teaching contract include health insurance? If any new symptoms appear that require medical actions.
Similarly, if you have private health insurance, do they have any restrictions as to where you live? I'm thinking of living in an area of known high air pollution. when suffering from any symptoms that may be contrary to your health and assuming previously they were made aware of.
Are health reasons, not being able to continue face to face teaching, acceptable as a reason to leave the school contract and leave the country?
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
My school contracts always include basic health insurance, but I never rely on that. I have a $1 million 'expat' insurance policy (that's the cover, not the premium price!), which includes medivac. There are no restrictions as to where I live in south-east Asia. I am sure health reasons are reason enough to leave a school contract, not wanting to teach online less of a reason. However, this is a new employer for me and I am not in Burma right now - I came back to Thailand a few weeks ago. So realistically, there is not a lot they can do if I don't return to Burma.
Yesterday, I sent an email to the immigration department asking about the visa situation. Their email reply below effectively says that all is unchanged. But their website (which I have used before a few weeks ago, seems to be offline now...
"Thank you for your enquiry. If you are from one of the nationalities listed in eVisa website http://evisa.moip.gov.mm, you may apply eVisa online. If your nationality is not listed, you may apply visa at Myanmar Embassy in your country. Thank you for your interest in visiting Myanmar"
^^ Ohoh, when you ask questions it always comes across as an interrogation
I read today that the junta has jailed a Japanese journalist for 10 years for taking photos during a civilian demonstration. Still, maybe better than what happened to the other Japanese journalist who was shot in the head...
Thank you for your reply.
My apologies. Understanding, confirmations of expectations and opinions to me is important and for some critical.
I'm just trying to clarify if moving to Myanmar, or elsewhere, can deliver.
One possible important requirement is, are local health facilities availability?
In Thailand, the medical options are readily and for most areas, available. Private or local doctors, clinics or competent hospitals.
A person with known issues, even if Simon has a good health insurance plan, may find a hospital that accepts it, has the resources/competence to assist are limited, or beyond easy/safe travel distance.
Just something to confirm, prior to choosing where to pick a new home, IMHO.
IMHO, Myanmar is definitely not a place to consider moving to! The only visas realistically available are marriage and business - there is no retirement visa. I could easily live in Myanmar off my online teaching income, but there is no visa available for that, so I need to teach at a school to get the business visa.
The local health facilities are... dire for the most part. My private health cover is realistically to fund Medivac to Thailand, if one is able to stay alive that long. A major road accident or heart/stroke and you will be dead before you reach any decent hospital. I know this and trust in 'my god' to keep me safe when in Myanmar. I ride my motorbike VERY carefully.... (I met a British girl in north Myanmar a few years ago who came off her motorbike and badly broke her thumb - she had to ride her bike in extreme pain for 10 hours to reach a hospital who did some basic treatment, and then had to continue on to a decent hospital in Thailand). This is why when I got pneumonia a few weeks ago, I staggered onto a plane to Bangkok immediately.
Don't forget that there is now a civil war in progress in the country - check The Irrawaddy - Covering Burma and Southeast Asia for the latest news on military atrocities against the civilian population, using their nice shiny jets and helicopter gunships bought from Russia
^Thank you again for the information.
You can always ignore the significant role played by Russia and China in the cause of deaths in Myanmar.
Oh, I see you already did choose that option. How convenient.
^Now there's a long and interesting story
^^^^
I meant history of Burma.
With or without invasions.
C&p would be welcome
But yes; it would be ruined fairly quickly by keyboard warriors who'd rather bash the chinese than revisit the invasions of Kublai Khan.
Have you been to Pagan ?
If one wants to stay in Myanmar long-term, then visa options are limited. I could marry a Burmese woman, but maybe with my track record of divorces, that's not a good idea! So the only other way is to get a business visa, which means employed by a company, which means teaching in an international school for me.
I'd love to live in Bagan, but no international schools in that town. Most schools are in Yangon, but that's not my favourite place either, due to too much traffic and air pollution. I'm due to go to Mandalay if I ever get my business visa. I also have a good offer from a new school in Naypyitaw (NPT). Actually, NPT is my favourite place to live, clean air and nice cycle paths around the reservoirs, no cars, er... no people really.
Still, if no business visa is forthcoming, I'll probably end up in Cambodia!
Both Chinese and Russian government leaders, ministers and official spokesmen/women deliver official statements. Long, short and occasionally videos.
If one desires any insight, one's knowledge is expanded by reading/watching them, every word. IMHO.
No "miss-speaking" allowed, unlike some other countries.
