We had family get it in the UK get it. He's late 40s, his wife and their young child also got it, but he suffered the worst. He said that he was bed ridden with the worst man flu known to man for 6 days, then they got better.

I mention that because if she has it, I presume her brother and mother also have it if they are isolated together.

I agree that the elderly and those with preexisting conditions should isolate themselves, and the rest of the workforce should get back to work.

The mangosteens, pineapples and durians are especially plentiful and delicious this year.

    1. Bacon and Durian sandwiches for breakfast.
    2. Prices are high, the FIL can restock his gold drawer.

I’m not quite ready to call the apocalypse just yet, however a bit of Pamp bullion kg bars would be good to hold - particularly if the global lockdown continues.

Bitcoin? I just don’t understand enough about it or how it is valued.

obviously I was joking about bitcoins, unless you don't mind losing money for a hobby

Gold as a speculative hedge? price too high, and these days correlated with everything else, hardly a diversifier

some nice LT and Floating Rates ETFs are up 23% YTD

Cash is going to be king soon, so keep it, with deflation about to come, it's like making free money

Nothing wrong with a few 1oz coins hidden away. I bought some at the end of January following some friendly advice.

Buy. As much as you afford to forget. It is after all only shiny rainy day insurance.

If in Thailand a mix of small and medium size bars. I've had 2 baht (1 oz. approx.) to twenty baht (10 oz. approx.). Anything larger will probably mean returning to the shop you bought them from.

I would suggest 5's and 10's and a small number of 2's. Weigh them in the shop and ask for a receipt. Nobody is bothered about any thing other than it's weight in gm. but the new ones look nicer. Keep them in the little red bags to keep them that way.

Thai gold is 96.5% pure. Thai gold shops buy and sell higher % and will adjust their price accordingly.

There is a Thai website run by The Gold Traders Association:

    Gold Traders Association : สมาคมค้าทองคำ - ราคาทองคำวันนี้ ราคาทองตอนนี้ T

he official gold price is updated throughout the day ( a running bar across the top). Usually 2 or 3 changes a day, but recently many more. As all are members they use that price. If they want more, go next door.

The price will go up and down.

Another site that issues daily and weekly "opinions" is:

    www.deMeadville.com

The commentator is Swiss but he outlines the where, why and when in an informative way.
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.

Gold bought in Thailand is very tradeable in Thailand, however not so welcome in other countries - Swiss pamp minted bars are the “gold standard” 99.999% pure. These are available from real bullion dealers in most countries.

ahh... I'll rephrase it - Cash is King, always has been and always will be, if you got it - "You The Man"

Anyway, not to spin this. Tried and true investment strategy is during your working years invest 10-15% of your earnings into tax deferred and tax exempt retirement vehicles. Ignore market fluctuations - they are part of the game and can't be timed. When you are too old to earn additional funds you will have a nest egg to support you.

Don't fall for the fallacy of any social safety net taking care of you in your old age. Yup, you are on your own...

    TD Isolation Olympics

The more strident of us might be using this time of quarantine to push the boundaries, in imaginative ways. Allow me to humbly start with myself.

1- 8 days now, without a shower. Baby wipes for the genital necessities. i feel fine.
2- 14+ days now, without a shave. Still can't grow a proper beard, but designer stubble.
3- Must be close to 6 months now, sans haircut.
4- My usually fine, windswept hair has become a tad oily- according to plan. Good.

There is method to my madness. I am seeking to change my look. After sooo many years of the same short back and sides parted at the left, I have decided to stop being a slave to ultra fine hair and shampoo, and try something different. A centre part, and longer haired approach- impossible previously, because of my impossibly fine hair. But as the natural oils build up in my unwashed bonnet (water strictly not permitted), just maybe made possible.

So far, I look like Mackenzie Crook post The Office. On a bad day. Except his hair is blond, mine steel grey. And he's ugly as sin. I am however heroically resisting maternal pressure, and sticking to my regime. Who knows what may come of it- Dreadlocks? I might be the coolest coffin dodger in the pub.

Anyone else employing this time of darkness to achieve heroic exploits, or dream the impossible dream?

How has the Coronavirus affected me?

Well, by far the very best Songkran yet - not a drop of water to avoid... don't have my wallet wrapped in plastic.

Original plans were to place my nephew-in-laws bones in the family Chedi in Suphan Buri - on hold until we return to a semblance of normal.

Only leave the Moo Baan for groceries - initially figured on two a week restock trips, one a week will do fine. Fortunate we have a vendor who brings a pickup truck of produce to the Moo Baan daily AM so we can get most fresh produce from him.

Used to shop at Tops in Westgate Mall - mall shutdown. Tried a Tops on-line order, initial signup they said they deliver to our Moo Baan - when I tried to place he order they now say no delivery to our Moo Baan. (Should be a Moan as they said all along that my location was good until I actually tried to place the order).

Sheltering in place - minimizing travel means home cooked meals - big bennie in that the wife is an excellent cook - but, as food is so damn cheap in Thailand why bother cooking. Now, staying home she gets bored. She is a clean freak so the house has always been spotless and you can only clean a clean room so many times so cooking falls into her routine. Less the few shopping days we've done.

Saving a bunch of cash - didn't realize just how much we actually spent on the road until now.

So, the changes are subtle - but over time are manifesting themselves.

...I've noticed that as well: lots of cash build up without restaurant visits and wine orders...laundry day has become an event to look forward to...opening mail is like Christmas morning...

Fuck that! These old folks and preexisting conditioners are popping more pills and polluting our waters, worst then any oil tanker spill you'll ever seen.

But they're not in every town's mall or ma and pa's gold shop around the country.

You may wish to review importing bullion laws in Thailand.

Sorry I was not talking about Ma and Pa shops but bullion dealers. They have them in Thailand who deal in 99.999 bars.

FYI -I would not hold gold in Thailand.

    Why? Afraid of getting mugged?
