You guys have poor memories... it was a rabbit. With hindsight that may have been a very strong hint but I'm a professional and here to work.

The pillow girl is onboard again just now but she'll have no time to give anyone's bedding the personal touch. This dredging machine came with a crew of 8 plus we now have 2 shift supervisors, 2 deck foremen and a host of riggers. The boat is full up and the stewardesses will be busy.



The mobilisation took a day and a half in the end but once everything was tested, the containers were welded to the deck, and everything was sea-fastened and made ship shape and Bristol fashion we departed yesterday evening for the field. The first job is to level a patch of seabed prior to the arrival and spudding of a jack-up rig and to me it seems strange that they took off the blade from the front of the machine which I would have thought would be perfect (but that's got nothing to do with me). One thing I do know... some of the boulders I saw won't fit through that suction hose... I'll observe with interest.



But enough of all that... the next crew change is mine so my interest has been diverted by organising an SHA hotel and other paperwork for my Thailand Pass.

This was the view out of my office port hole at the start of my night shift tonight... Statfjord C, with Statfjord A in the background.



The last week we've been working around the Gullfaks field. These old fields were developed using concrete gravity based platforms. Statfjord was developed in the late 70s and Gullfaks in the 80s.

I waited ages to get a picture of this helicopter taking off from Gullfaks A but gave up in the end... it was just too cold.

Are you excerising everyday? I recall last year you were walking helideck? Are you still on night shift? How long into this shift? must be half way through by now or are you doing another 12 weeker?

^^ I usually take the 12-12 night shift... it avoids any jet lag to and from Thailand. Besides, I like nights, it's quieter.

This will be a 6 week trip, which after my last two work trips of 12 weeks and 6 months is a piece of cake. I'm due off next week but just need to organise a Thailand Pass, which ain't proving easy.

From now on I'll be doing 4 or 6 weeks trips as travel becomes easier... well, at least that's the theory.

I'd love to discuss my exercise regime but don't want to take the thread off topic. This is an 'Offshore Pics' thread!

And Statfjord A and B. The tanker is loading oil from an SPM (Single Point Mooring). From this field the gas is sent to shore via pipelines, the oil loaded on tankers.

Got to stick up for Mendip here. What you're saying is completely false, they're called the mess on ships.

Offshore pics of the wall around the beli deck each morning or the pics of the gym window view would be perfectly appropriate.

Saw 6 lifeboat chutes on the platform. Are platforms required to have extra in case of malfunctions?

^ The helideck is off limits at the moment as all our work is within platform 500 metre zones and the gym has no port hole because it's below main deck and therefore below the waterline.

I can go back to the gym for the second time tonight and get a picture later if you like. Haven't got time right now cos it's one hour until Thursday starts and I've just realised I haven't had my 'Wednesday Wank' yet!

If you look at the far corner past those 6 lifeboat chutes on Statfjord C there appears to be another bank of chutes as well.

I don't know the regulations for platforms but imagine that they would be similar to vessels. I think you're required to have lifeboat (and/or life raft) capacity for 150% of the POB, or at least something like that. I have no idea what the POB on a platform like Statfjord C would be, but probably a lot less now with so much automation than 30 years ago... but the lifeboat capacity would still have to cover increased POB during shutdowns and the like (I would think).

Mendy how do they get in those lifeboats at that angle?

I've never been on one and I hope I never do.

There's a lot on YouTube about it and this video shows a bit of the boarding and disembarking.

A woman driver as well...
