Never rated 33, I was living on 28 for years, rarely called into 33, just kept walking to Cowboy.
I Remember the silver Dollar. Had an occasional drink in there. Doug is still hail and hearty at his new Bourbon st last time I was there (last year). Got some nice hard to get bourbons in his bar. Sampled a few one night. One of them I sampled could've been used for fuel in a Dragster.

The old Bourbon St on Washington was always a Oasis of sanity, an escape from the madness of Bangkok, it was never too busy, AC worked, nobody bothered you and you could get some quality fuel in you! called in there many a night on the way home and had the red beans and rice to soak up the alcohol.

Old Mama Noi who allegedly used to entertain Bob Hope during his Vietnam War visits was still working there when it closed.

There was a clapped out place with pool tables and a bar on its last legs, it was right in front as you walked in off Sukhumvit. It lasted until around 2007.

Went to Flyers regularly with Wally Raffles or Ken (Mysterio) I pulled a cashier and we were giks for about a year.

She was great, I could call her at kicking out time, she'd be round within an hour with a bag of clinking bottles...usually Chang

Bloody hell Bangkok was almost a different city in those days.....now it's a characterless city called Blandcock

Ok so I'm clinging to the past

But I didn't mean Washington Square should not have closed, as it was a dump

^Oh yes I agree, I got drunk there many times. A charming dump, like the old 'temporary' beer garden between Suk 13 & 15. I don't even remember the toilet facilities

Round the corner before soi 22 was that white tiled cheap eating place, cockroaches crawling about, but it was my oasis for 2yrs from fri/sat nights at the old Titanium and the food was passable. You had to walk past the kitchen to the squat toilet. Never once did I look in as I went past. I knew I'd see a filthy vermin infested kitchen but out of sight, out of mind as they say.

The ancient bespectacled one-wok-wonderwoman in the alley was an institution, rickety chairs, sitting amongst the local cat population, who acted as pest control

I walked down there with Punty last year. Probably boring the pants off him. I even saw the singer who used to play round there. I hid my face as I'd propositioned her a decade earlier.

In a nut shell Hugh. It was ours and has been replaced with a homogeneous characterless collection of condos, shopping centers and pretentious bars and restaurants.

Bangkok has lost it's soul in it's rush to be just like the rest of the worlds major urban centers.

Far more variation in novelty years ago than now and not just the knock shops.

It's criminal. Hence my expression 'Blandcock'...it's a bigger shithole now.

The DJ population in those days was so small everyone knew eachother. Only 4 farang Djs in those days. Now it's all dog eat dog and wankers on laptops who don't know what a vinyl record or cd is

Bangkok is still unique and a hell of a lot more fun than any other City I can think of.

The reason soi 33 is now so dead is probably because of all the variety there is, that and it being low seaeon
    Heres a little selection;
    Soi Cowboy
    Nana Plaza
    Patpong
    Ramkamhaeng soapies
    Soi 22's Queens Park Plaza
Thonglor and Ekamai's upscale bars, dining and clubs
    Soi 11's nightclubs
    RCA
    Soi 31's world class restaurants
    World class shopping malls
Ping pong and ladyboy shows are easily found as well as Bangkok attracting big names to concerts nowadays

Theres loads more i could add to that, such as that shitty Thermae you old duffers always blart on about, numerous sports bars and bar beers and fetish places

And all of this dotted along a superb BTS and MRT network where you can get from place to place in minutes.

No need for that just showing the amount of variety the City has got. Theres more to RCA than kids discos, theres a couple of gay bars in there also

Ive been to RCA twice but just for the go karting, the good old days when i could fit in one
