What kind of snake is this?

Does anyone have any idea what kind of snake this is? Number 1 son bought it online and the wife is absolutely pooping herself.
It's basically comatose, hasn't moved in 3 days but doesn't seem to be dead.
May have something to do with the fact that the weather's hovering around 12-13 degrees the last week or two.
    It's about 18 inches long.

Surely if he bought on on-line, he didn't just buy "nice snake"; must have known what he was buying.

It's a climbing snake. Give it some branches or vines to climb on and it might perk up - although it could very well be the cold. Put a directional lamp above its house to warm things up a bit.

A 'corn snake'. A google search throws up a lot of information and pictures (also called a 'rat' snake) but none of the pictures of corn snakes have stripes and the one he bought was red and white stripes about 8 inches long.
He's happy because this looks more like a snake than the one he ordered. (according to him). Just thought we might have had a herpetologist on board.

Dunno anything about snakes, but the colours look wrong to me. The white marking on the brindle are very distinct, while the snake in OP looks more brown and black?

Maybe an Asian King Snake? Found in eastern China?? Is Cujo in China?

^^Malayan Bridle Snake, per Norton, is almost certainly correct. Did he buy it on-line in China?

^Bridle snakes have a number of color variations.

Not so sure. I think Niddy's offering is much closer.

    Back the truck up!
Nidhog's photo is close to the OP but Aian kingsnake it is not.

Bit hard to see the markings and coloring clearly and in detail on Cujo's picture.

Corn snakes do indeed have a variety of markings.

And tend to "They are known to hibernate during winters when living in colder regions, but are known to only brumate (hide in crevices on cold days and soak up the sun on warmer days in order to regulate their temperatures) in more temperate climates."

Description of the Malaysian brindle snake:\

Description: This is a thin snake less than the thickness of a finger. It has a light yellow mask and comes in one of two color pattern variations. Shown here is the pattern with a brown background and longitudinal stripes running from neck to tail. There is one along the vertebral ridge and one on each side. The eyes of this snake are rather large compared to the very small head. The head is slightly smaller than the neck of the snake. There are two very small rear-fangs seen upon inspection of the mouth. The head of this snake is not elongated in a long triangle like the Lycodon family of snakes – which is one way to tell the difference.

I will take the contrary position. Body shape is wrong, colour is wrong and head shape is wrong.

Head markings in OP completely different than corn snakes in your pics. Try again.
