You know you are back in China when..

Spent three weeks in Thailand, and recently came back to China. First few days back I really knew I wasn't in sunny Thailand anymore.

A few observations - I was walking back from the grocery store when I walked by this Chinese guy who was standing up beside the sidewalk peeing into some bushes with not a care in the world. I did a double take because I only realized he was peeing when he quickly pulled his pants up and jumped down off the bush ledge as I passed by. Main street, peeing in the bushes by the sidewalk.... Welcome back to China.

Riding the subway yesterday, I finally got a seat for the first time in six months. I had my face down, and as I pulled my face up, I found it staring into the crack of a babies butt. No lie! The baby was about six months old was wearing open pants where the butt is. I heard Chinese parents do this so they can let them pee or poo anywhere at any time. Lovely, I thought as I put my head back down.

    *Will definitely add onto this

The dirty, toilet retarded, Chinese bastards. Even in the capital they will happily shit on toilets with the doors open for all to see.

The first time I used the internet when I got back to China, I wondered why I couldn't get on any sites like facebook, google, teakdoor, etc. Then I remembered that I had to put my vpn back on. Life is easy in Thailand where you don't have to use a paid for vpn to get on most sites. Not a rant, just an observation. I'm like, 'Why is this not working?" Oh yeah, I'm not in Thailand anymore, Dorothy!

@pb - use a "shewee". Google it. Then you can piss anywhere.

I've once read that babies or toddlers in China use those split pants to save on diapers. Cost cutting started during the Mao regime since ppl were so poor & couldn't afford nappies.

^Cutting costs makes sense, katie. They still let them pee and poo in garbage cans and on the street. Quite an eye opener the first time you see it.
^I'll check the 'shewee'. lol. I can use a tree by leaning against it, but I certainly wouldn't do it in the open where there are people passing by....you?

You seem to attract vocal expressive people, these assertions about hygiene are void without images of the lead fecalists,I found your posts quite moving and have refrained from Prunes since you 've graced our little playground once more......

How long were you sentanced to in China, if you have wealthy or inflential lovers they may be able to effect your own evacuation?

Went into a shitter in Beijing to have a piss.

There were two troughs running the length of each opposing wall and the Filth had their arses hanging out having a nasty shit, smoking and yelling at each other all at once. No partitions just a fooking through.

Dirty discussing nasty filthy plebs if ya ask me.

The Country should of just disappeared up its own arse.

    Much better for all concerned.

Interesting thread, do actually enjoy living there? China is on the list of possible destinations next year, to be honest I prefer the idea of Hong Kong. After Mandalay I really crave heavy development and cleanliness. Rents are less the London for a simple studio and actually not that dearer than what is on offer in Mandalay rather bizarrely; supply and demand, I guess.

How's the food in China? Plenty of Chinese food of various varieties here, I prefer Szechuan dishes myself.

^^A loaded question for me.... China has been good to me, but by the time I leave, I'll have had my fill with the place (5 years total).

I don't really like the food. I found a few places I like, but generally they load oil on their food and I can't stomach it. I cook or eat at other restaurants that abound in Shanghai (Greek, Italian, American, etc.)

You can make some decent money in China, but I wouldn't want to live in a smaller place. They barely speak English in the big cities, so you should know some Mandarin if you go to a small place. In general (At least in the big cities), you don't see the peeing in the streets, and babies peeing. It was just that I saw it both happen in within a few days which I found funny.

I wouldn't want to live in HK. Too crowded, micro claustrophic and more expensive than Shanghai. However, many people like it. To each their own. It depends more on what you want and what your goals are.

This is not spam, but true and vice versa. Lots of tension between them especially since the peaceful protests in HK a few years ago.

Is that Tsingtao you mean.? Cheaper than imported anyway. I don't drink it unless I have to.

^ I chose to come to China. There are many good opportunities here if you can hack it. I will also decide when it is time to leave. Once my contract is finished I will leave. Five years is enough for me.

I've been researching the cost of living in Hong Kong, nothing I wasn't expecting apart from one little fact about rent prices- they're only 1% more expensive than Mandalay- that's pretty shocking. What are rents like on the mainland?

Listening to Cantonese is easier on the ear. Then again I've only ever got as far as Hong Kong

Mandarin dialect encourages spitting and sounds horrible. I can't even watch films in mandarin, I wanna throw up.
