Two British men have become the first in the country to give birth after putting their gender transitions on hold.

Hayden Cross, 21, and Scott Parker, 23, were both born women, but chose to have children before full surgery made it impossible.

In April Mr Parker gave birth to his daughter Sara who was conceived following a drunken one-night stand with a friend in August last year.

Last month Mr Cross delivered his daughter Trinity-Leigh via Caesarean section, after he found a sperm donor on Facebook and inseminated himself.

The pair are now planning to return to gender reassignment surgery as quickly as possible.

Mr Cross was born Paige but has been living legally as a man for more than three years and taking male [at]hormones, which have given him facial hair and a deep voice.

He had asked the NHS to freeze his eggs before completing the transition in the hope that he might have children in later years. But the health service refused.

“I faced the prospect of not becoming the man I’m supposed to be, physically, or a dad,” he told The Sun newspaper.

"I found the donor on the internet. I looked on Facebook for a group and found one — it’s been shut down now. I didn’t have to pay.

“The man came to my house, he passed me the sperm in a pot and I did it via a syringe.

“I found I was pregnant two weeks after the sperm was inserted. I was happy but I also knew it would be backtracking on my transition.

“It’s a very female thing to carry a baby and it goes against everything I feel in my body.”

Mr Cross said he does not know the name of the biological father.

Mr Parker gave birth seven weeks before Mr Cross.

Since the birth Mr Parker has resumed life as a man and is continuing with his transition. He is planning to have an operation to remove his breasts next year. The taxpayer-funded process costs an average of £29,000.

In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Mr Parker said: “It is wonderful that attitudes are changing and people like me can celebrate being a parent. I am overjoyed for Hayden Cross too."

Mr Paker has a partner who was also born female and is also transitioning to become a man, and is hoping to become legal parent to Sara.

The couple said the biological father does not want to be involved in the baby’s life.

Mr Parker said he had asked be registered as the ‘father’ on Sara’s birth certificate but was told by officials that he must be listed as Sara’s mother.

In October, he will be given a testosterone injection, which will set in motion irreversible physical changes.

Speaking about what he will tell his daughter about her birth when she is old enough to understand, Mr Parker said: “‘I’ll tell her that I was born exactly the same way you are now but I’m a boy. I’m a girl who grew up to be a big boy.

"I want society to understand this a bit better so that when she grows up it’s more normal to say, “Yes, my dad had me.”

Gonna be fun and games when these kids grow up.

Kids often give their parents a hard time as it is when they start to get older even when the parents are regular parents.

I think these kids that have the added chip of maybe feeling like they have been part of an experiment to some extent are going to have an additional bit of axe to grind when it comes to parental friction and aggro.
