Products available in Thailand. Thumbs up or down.

I thought it might be useful to have a thread where product reviews can be made and read, to recommend to members or warn members against.

Someone recently posted that he can't find decent coffee. I highly recommend Doi Tung. It comes in various "strengths" and is a delicious coffee.
For instant coffee, local brand Khao Shong is very good value. A quarter of the price of Nescafe or Maccona, but very tasty.

I also recommend Chalaa brand fruit juices. It's a blue carton and is very much better than Malee or UFC that are pricier. The mixed berry is nice, and at 42 baht a litre, is well worth it. I also like the pommelo and the tangerine juices.

Comments on my above recommendations welcome.

Well if there are any Amerikunts on here that like regular ole drip coffee:

A regular ole cheap-o drip coffee maker:

    With:

Bon Cafe All Day or Expresso Roast takes very close to Maxwell House or Folgers.

Bon Cafe is sold everywhere. Big C, Tesco Lotat, etc...

Also sold alongside are the coffee filters.

Thailand has great pork. Inexpesive and good quality. I'm fond of local watermelon, banana and pineapple as well. Better than just about any "western" country and far cheaper.

This brand of bread sold at 7-11 & Tesco Lotat - "Royal Farmhouse"

Really thick, large slices. White, Wheat, & Whole Grain. Excellent for a 911 sammich emergency. It isn't anything gourmet - but it'll get the job done.

Not bad but a bit too soft for me. I prefer the Tesco wholemeal bread. It's better (IMO) and cheaper.

Agree it's too soft. Almost gluggy. I get a bread from Central Festival called "7 grains". Japanese franchised bakery, I believe. Great bread. I'll ask wifey the name of the bakery.

^^yea but 7/11's are in practically every village nowadays, Tesco is not....

The 7/11 has many handy heathly (sort of) snacks like the roasted pumpkin seed and sunflower seeds, they generally carry the excellent Bulgaricus yogurt which is the only unsweetenned one you can find.
Very handy when cycling around the country.

I get the pork soft bones from Tesco, and the steaks. They are good quality. I've practically given up on meat from the fresh markets; killed and sold on the same day, always tough and cooks dry. Offal, on the other hand is good from the fresh markets.
Liver, both pork and chicken do not need aging, so the cheap stuff from the market is great. Also pork trotters or pigs head don't require aging, so get from the market.

It is! I was sick of gaeng pet moo at the funeral last week and drove the 12 kms to the nearest town. I stopped at a Tesco Lotus to get ciggies and there was one of those chicken stalls outside. I bought a drum and a thigh, and a stick of fried dim sums or dumplings (whatever they're called).
    All very nice.

Blue ribbon for bread goes to Tops at Central for their dark American rye at 270 bt for a 2kg loaf or 80bt for a quarter. If you want a biggie and they don't have any left, take 4 prepacked quarters but make sure they charge 270 as for a whole one, not 320.

You'll only find sevens located in the more populated/marketable Thesabans - or the odd one situated amongst the petrol station giant along the motorway in the fucking middle-of-nowhere.

....and still, far and few between - which can only be a good thing for real civilisation.

There is a pre-packaged frozen beef burger patty sold in Makro.

Frozen, has like 6 patties in a vacuum sealed plastic bag - called something something " beef burger supreme"

    Thumbs down! Do NOT BUY.

Can't find a pic but ffs don't do it. Buy low fat mince & add egg/breadcrumb/stuff.
