Mabe I did. But The offhand (disparagin??) comments about freelancers/thai wives could be perceived as, slightly insulting to the women we've chosen to share our lives with. CMN has commented on this attitude in other discussions, Just because a woman is with a farang too many folks assume "bag girl" or "freelancer" Hell some of my woman's co-workers ask her if I "give her money."Originally Posted by Storekeeper
Got a firend, retired Seal, great guy married a filipina about 10 years his junior. This lady is now Branch manager of a bank in some hoity-toity neighborhood. When she'd cme to gather us up after night of serious drinking the looks, the attitude was palpable
I hope I've said nothing disparaging about BGs and/or the men that marry them. I've said it before; there are some women that would make absolutely wonderful wives/girlfriends be they bar girl or librarian. And they are fun to be around. In fact, I sometimes wish my little woman was a tiny bit more of a social animal. Why one can talk so much shit about BGs and yet be so sensitive about the freelancer term is ridiculous. I can only come to the conclusion that one isn't absolutely certain if it bothers them so. Either way ... your disparaging comments and attitudes towards those guys with the BG ladies is unfair as well.
CMN: You've always be fair and level headed in your responses to me in the past. I've always felt a bit of respect for you because of your responses. So I'll drop it as you requested with this last response. Name calling isn't where I want to go with you.
My earlier comments were directed at this one particular relationship where it seems to have gone bad. These were two people obviously not meant for each other, whether she was bar girl shop girl or Uni student.
A marriage is a marriage some guys do come here and marry up only to find out that they chose the wrong mate. In my experience I've seen BG/farang marriages where I felt the girl got the shitty end of the sick more often than the other way 'round. Hell, I've married up a few times and some were the wrong one for me or, I was wrong for a them. They were american and Thai.
If I were to find out tomorrow that my little woman was some wild karaoke mamma n her twenties wouldn't change a thing. I just do not give a rats ass. She is what she is now and that's where we are; in the now, and we will never again see the "then" again.
I thnk you'll find that most guys married to a Thai Lady have only the same complaints they would being married to any woman, it's a guy thing. Folks think we're with asian women because they're 'submissive' haven't got a fuckin' clue. The ones where a guy marries a BG and suffers horribly are usually more noteworthy. After all, "Happily Ever After" is usually the end of a story.
And that Masturbator thing? Ah hell SK you're a swabbie, you guys are famous for it. Good thing you ain't Brit sailor; we all know what they're famous for...
I'm not a Masterbaiter ... I don't even know how to fish.
That's disgraceful! Call yourself a sailor?!Originally Posted by Storekeeper
OVer the years l have had a couple of bar girls show what l am sure was genuine interest in me. l know that they wanted an ongoing relationship. Rather sadly, the one lwas most interested in disppeared while l went on a one month trip to Vietnam. when l came back l dashed off to Tilac Bar in Cowboy to see her, but she was gone. Afe months later l was able to pieve together her story.
She had a long term relationship with a fascist German, who would ring her day and night, to find out where she was, who she was with. ln my absence he had come to Bangkok, and taken her back to Germany with him. l presume they were married somewhere down the line.
A couple of years later l had a chance to visit her family in Chantaburi, so, off l headed in the vague hope, that things had not worked out in Germany and that l might yet be able to find her. With a bit of help from a young Thai couple in a pick up we found the family home. A modest tin and concrete shed. At home at the time was her younger sister, who confirmed that the girl l knew was still in Germany, with the same fascist and that they had had a baby as well. Crossed her off the list.
However, if she had been avaialbel when l returned, then l think there is a very good chance l would be with her today. She was modest and when not dancing, dressed in along skirt and plaint - shirt. She was not interested in attracting customers and indeed told me that she did not go with men. This she confirmed by declining my attempt to bar fine her at first or take her out for dinner later. As she explained, she was scared of her fascist boyfriend, checking up on her.
Bar girls come in all shapes and sizes. l know a number of people who have married bar girls and are very happy now raising a family together. Good luck to all of them. Of course there are any number of fakers and sharks just waiting to get their teeth stuck into someone, but then again the same could be said of men or women anywhere in the world. The profession alone is not necessarily enough to stop me from considering such a girl.
Try Thai Visa you will fit in well...Originally Posted by Bwana Brad

How close were you to marrying, weeks, months, days?
Who talked you out of it?
Family or friend.
Back in those days you had to run a request chit to get married ... there was an elaborate system set up with visits to counselors, ministers, financial counseling, etc. I had done all of the paperwork and all that was left to do was pick a date. I was talked out of it by my division leading chief. The same man who once told me, "Anybody who smokes Kools, parts their hair in the middle and wears tinted glasses is a doper" (Had me pegged) I stopped parting my hair in the middle from that very day. And soon stopped with the tinted eye glasses. But it took a few years to stop smoking the Kools. He talked me out of it by taking the angle on financial responsibility and that I was a lowly E-3 at the time. I think he also told me I'd be better off marrying the Japanese girlfriend I had as well.Originally Posted by ChiangMai noon
Interesting. I guess it comes down to how you define a "bargirl". I spent a couple of weeks with a nice chic who I picked up freelancing in Lucifer. Not a bar girl per se and not an Isaan Jungle bunny.
Great laugh, great English. Wrong side of 30. But clearly in the market for Pattaya falang.
Would I marry her? No. Would I like to spend more time with her? Definitely...
