Irritated by an inappropriate apostrophe or appalling spelling in a text message?

At long last relief is at hand for grammar snobs with a new iOS app which enables users to correct offending text messages and return them to the sender.

Known as “Grammar Snob”, the app has been developed by John Haney, from St Louis, Missouri, Buzzfeed reported.

The app is based on “stickers” which can be overlaid on the offending text before it is sent back.

The corrections are written in red and are inserted by holding the sticker and placing it over the grammatical or spelling howler.

It has been released to coincide with the latest version of iOS software, iOS 10, and is available for a nominal price.

How recipients will react to being taken to task by a “grammar nazi” is not clear.

The first batch of stickers includes to/too/two and were/we’re. There are also corrections for commonly misspelled words such as espresso.

Mr Haney’s app is in its first iteration and he is already working on an update which will have even more corrections.
