Exactly. Your initial points were entirely valid in that (among others) until it stabilizes people simply aren't going to be using it. You'd be crazy to.

Unfortunately Earl in all his kneejerk fundamentalist Evangelical zeal has a tendency to miss points and grab the wrong end of the stick.

I guess crypto will ultimately rise or fall on its on merits but it's a fair bet that its founders cringe when loons like Earl start prattling on about 'gubmint!' and making wildly over-blown statements. He doesn't make a good salesman.

^^ on a technical level it is simple to change the cryptographic algorithm to make the current asic mining rigs useless. its not a problem, what is more of an issue is that these mining pools exert a huge influence over the bitcoin ecosystem and the bitcoin community itself is notorious for its squabbling.

Its hard to say what will happen, but its not a difficult problem, in fact that is supposed to be the motive behind launching bitcoin gold, they have used a asic resistant cryptographic algorithm can favours GPU mining which uses much much much less power.

My personal investment goals are totaly irrelevant to the big picture reality which you and boneheads like knobertson ignore; Bitcoin is not going just suddenly burst and disapear, so get used to being one of the idiots who failed to see the future of Internet.

I never said it was going to disappear, and I'm totally fine with missing out. I see how it could be awesome, but I think the recent rise relative to potential isn't adding up. If it comes back down to earth I'll be fine to pick some up. I'd have to think hard about an entry point though. I think its far below where it is right now for me. And if it does go up to a million bucks good for those who jumped on.

When you got into the internet did wait for it to go back to 1440 dial up modems on 386 machines?

Surely you can observe how ridiculous you muleheaded perspective is...

Can't believe the quibblers. It's a new concept that's trying to get first recognised and then established, and if it does then applications and platforms and new uses will appear just as with the www, iphones and more or less everything else. Nobody can tell the future. But if it dies, which is looking extremely unlikely, it will simply reappear in a more sophisticated form. Either way there is a future, as given by gov distrust and banker public dislike as they prepare to capitalise with their own ambitious equivalents.

absolutely, and yet some here are delusional enough to ignore that common sense

There is no such thing as an ASIC resistant algo. The Bitcoin gold algo can not run on Bitcoin core mining equipment and the algo may be slightly more difficult to implement on an ASIC but that doesn't make it ASIC resistant.
ASIC miners are more energy efficient and less costly than GPU miners, an ASIC can be the equivalent of 100 GPU's but will only consume the same power as 10 GPU's.
Miners against ASIC is usually miners who has invested big in a GPU farm..

indeed, it would seem ridiculous to run a data center full of servers only computing some silly algos accomplishing absolutely nothing, so that drug dealers can stash their cash away

question of time they start making mining illegal, and buying overpriced PCs (like some have done here) for only mining purposes

You'll be paying tax on that of course, if you pull it out.
Better factor that in to what actual profit you make.

^^^ Yep, great sell. He needs to. Bitcoin would fail if people didn't invest in it. It's an elaborate pyramid scheme and needs to lure more and more people into it.

When did I imply fear of anything? I'm a skeptic, of this and many things. I'm a skeptic of the stock market and its current valuation, and I'm also a skeptic of bitcoin and its valuation. I think I've expressed the reasons why.

I'm happy to see it succeed, I'm commenting on its price relative to its value. I don't believe the price accurately reflects its value at this time, and at some point the market will account for it in the form of price declines. Really not sure what any of that has to do with fear.
