Blackgang was a product of his age and environment and his views were obviously coloured by those experiences. One could have accused him of being many things but a hypocrite he was not. I liked him and he even sent me a PM welcoming a visit if I ever found myself in his neck of the woods.
I particularly enjoyed his literary style which had more than a sprinkling of Cormac McCarthy about it and in posting his reminiscences he wrote well and entertained.
Certainly, an original and as such would always be missed.

His detestation of Ant was in itself sufficient to mark him out as a man of some considerable worth.

^I concur. I always enjoyed BG. A throwback indeed...he reminded me of some of the old Sergeants I met in the Army who were veterans of 3 wars - the times had changed, but they hadn't budged.

I miss Eric [which also includes the old days and atmosphere] and the way he ran the place.....
