They do tend to suppress anger and frustration on a daily basis, mainly to do with other people's selfish habits; crap drivers, noisy neighbours, abusive relationships, poor working environments, debts, etc.
When the straw eventually breaks the camel's back, it's usually time for a quick exit.

It is not whether or not the Thai truly shirk confrontation but whether or not they can resolve it once conflict arises.
The answer of course is, no.
That is why the place is such a fuck up. Learning how to admit personal fault, accepting it and offering settlement would be a start.
A Thai actually saying sorry for a personal fault is as rare as hen's teeth. Sure, if they have no rooms left, the phad thai is off the menu, the buses have stopped running they'll trot out the "so solly " routine but if the waitress delivers a ham omelette instead of the cheese one you ordered all you will get is an imbecilic smile and some awkwardness.
Really, they are the most neurotic and insecure people to walk the planet. If they spent half the time they did on working out who is higher or lower in their moronic little social scale on actually considering why they were so fucking stupid the place would be a lot better.
I see wealthy/connected Thais being more confrontational and willing to throw their weight around. Asians in general for that matter.Quote:

Two recent examples:
i had a new samsung TV konk. Sent my staff in to sort it out. Came back with warranted only for 6 months..That sounded wrong to me. later when I got the chance I verified that a one year warranty was still in effect.
I then proceed to the Samsung service center in Phuket, and DEMAND service on said TV. At first I get the runaround. I then inform them that I will not leave their office until they honor the warranty. I then tell the manager that I'll call the police and file fraud charges against them.
They finally accepted the return of the TV. I guess it's fixed now, I gotta go pick it up.

the second time was almost beyond belief.
On the train from Chiang Mai to Bkk... No liquor or beer is allowed on the train nowadays.
I bring a bottle of Johnny red to allay the withdrawals. I keep it under cover and not obvious.
I meet up with a fellow Scot a share a tipple or two as Scots are to do.
Some busybody train-lady spots the bottle.
Now we're not drinking heavy and I am away from my compartment for some time.
The staff had made my bed while I was gone,
I retire and go to sleep. Later I wake up ready for a drink and find my nearly full bottle of Johnny red is gone.
When I realize what's happened i go fucking ballistic.
I start yelling "khamoi"(thief)to full lung extension.
I get the whole train security engaged, guns drawn, handcuffs out.
I resist the handcuffing attempt by screaming loudly "you don't touch me"
So latter as we're arriving in Bankgok half expecting to be incarcerated. The officials return my 3/5th full bottle of scotch with much quiescence.

The Thais have outlawed liquor on their rail.
In any other country the authorities would have tazored or beat you to stop your incessant yelling (ranting) and/or resisting handcuffs , securely cuffing your arms behind your back (while possibly popping your shoulder socket) and placed you under arrest and your ass behind bars at the next stop without returning your tipple or rail ticket to you (period).
