Muhammad tops UK baby name list

MUHAMMAD has become the most popular name for newborn boys in the UK.
WHILE Arabic baby names are on the rise, TV shows such as Game Of Thrones have also inspired names for the next generation.
Website BabyCentre's list of the top 100 baby names of 2014 shows Muhammad has risen a huge 27 places from last year to claim the number one spot for boys.
The data shows an enormous surge in Arabic names generally, with Nur a new entry in the girls' top 100, jumping straight to number 29, and Maryam rising 59 places to number 35.
Omar, Ali, and Ibrahim are all new to the boys' top 100.
Sophia was the top name for baby girls, mirroring its popularity in BabyCentre's charts in the US, Brazil, Spain and Russia last year.
For boys, Teddy was the biggest climber within the top 100. The highest new entries were Kian and Jonathan.
From Game Of Thrones, Emilia was a new entry at 53, with parents also registering Daenerys and Tyrion.
Breaking Bad also continued to influence, as Skyler, Jesse and Walter all increased in popularity.
Popular names from the `70s seem to be making a comeback, with Emma, Sarah and Maria up 10, 32 and 12 places respectively.
The baby names chart ranks the names chosen by 56,157 BabyCentre.co.uk members who gave birth in 2014.
    The top 10 girls' names:
    1 Sophia
    2 Emily
    3 Lily
    4 Olivia
    5 Amelia
    6 Isla
    7 Isabella
    8 Ava
    9 Sophie
    10 Chloe
The top 10 boys' baby names:

Hasn't that been proven a myth previously.
Something to do with it actually been the top name among MUSLIMS, not the general population.
It doesn't make sense otherwise. Mohamed is pretty much a name only Muslims would choose, and I don't think Muslims are the majority in Britain yet, and even then not ALL muslims call their boys Mohamed.

most Mussies I know have the prefix MD or MHD before there chosen name, so i'd say at least 90 per cent of mussies first names are Mohammed

I think the argument is (I haven't checked it, I hasted to add...) that our Islamic brothers and sisters have a lot more children than the average member of the British population. Thus, a small % of the population increases very quickly while other groups decrease rapidly (like Japan who are are the -ve population growth cycle, so I read...) which changed the nations makeup within a generation or two.
    Cycling should be banned!!!

No, it hasnt be proven to be a myth .
The U.K.s most popular boys name is Mohammed .
The thing that I find strange , is that there are no Islamic names among the girls names .
The only explanation would be that Muslims are aborting female foetuses

    It's not hard Fluke...

It's pretty easy to understand.... 90 per cant of Mussies call their sons after the prophet. Maybe a few percent of Brits call their sons Oliver.

    There is no female prophet

In some parts of London, the hospitals stopped telling parents what gender their child will be, due to the high number of female foetuses being miscarried, it was in Muslim areas where the hospitals stopped doing this .
Which shows Muslims want boys as their first baby and will abort females

Actually I did . Me & gf both wanted a girl, although th reason for that is because I didnt want a boy like the gfs sisters boy, who I wanted him to take a DNA test, because Im convinced that hes half orang a tang , thankfully my boys nothing like him, and now Im pleased I got a boy

That article was awful; it is essentially an interview with one doctor that simply repeats his statements.

Now, the good doctor may be right or wrong, but sloppy, lazy "journalism" like that rubbish does absolutely nothing to enlighten a topic. If it's true Fluke then there must be a more convincing link available than that somewhere?
    Parse it a bit:
Dr Vincent Argent, who previously worked for the British Pregnancy Advisory Service and is now a GP and consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist, said he had...Establish his authority but no follow up on why his is no longer in that post?
Dr Argent said there were... Uncited opinion and no follow-up
However, he said there were also…. Uncited opinion and no follow-up
He confirmed that he had been asked to arrange abortions for this reason but had told the patients it was unethical and he could not help them.... Anecdotal and no follow-up
Dr Argent also disclosed that he believed…. Opinion
Dr Argent said his colleague... Uncited opinion and no follow-up
However, Dr Argent said the law on sex selective abortions was unclear and suggested that it was not illegal…. Had to get that out of the way so they trivialise it and hope nobody notices
Dr Argent said aborting a baby due to its gender was “more common among some ethnic communities” but that it “happens in all communities”.Had to get that out of the way so they trivialise it and hope nobody notices
He said previously that GPs routinely flouted the law by….Uncited opinion and no follow-up
The tone they set to the article ruins it.

I learned precisely nothing from reading that link, I half expected it to end with a line like "Dr. Vincent Argent's new book 'I want to rile people up enough to buy this book and I can retire' is due out next month"

EDIT: Before you attack me for disliking the article here is a link to something that the doctor submitted to Parliament which shows that he is superbly qualified to inform people on issues like this and he's not some anti-abortion loon so he was as badly served by the telegraph as those of us who wanted to learn something from reading it:

There you go Koojo , this report from the Independent states that the NHS in some areas doesnt tell the parents the gender of their unborn child , I knew this because my friends from Newham had a baby and the NHS wouldnt tell them the babies gender because the hospital didnt want people aborting female babies

"Some experts have argued that the baby’s sex should be withheld automatically until much later in pregnancy, when abortions are more difficult to obtain – as some NHS hospitals have already started to do."
