Actually there is a similar scam in China where and obviously bewildered foreigner is approached in the street by a pretty girl who after a little small talk suggests they go for tea (cuppa).
She leads shim down a side alley to a traditional teahouse and they order tea and chat.
When the bill is delivered by some burly thugs it is astronomical and the guy must pay, no recourse, he can't call the cops.
