And the more noise the less solid the case, I always find.

When your currency is basically worthless, and your banking and financial system basically insolvent, you need to bully/cajole the rest of the world to accept your currency as the major medium of exchange, and to punish the absconders severely (think Saddam & Putin). This requires an inordinately large military, which requires huge expenditure, which renders the currency even more worthless.

The largest manufacturing capacity left in the USA, by far, is Aerospace and Defence.

There's been a lot of rumbling lately about moving away from the USD as a rate to tie other currencies in. I am not comfortable keeping a lot of money tied up in USD.
