It pisses me off when others don't greet me with Kia ora, even tho' they know I am kiwi.
OK, yes, that would be a rather large and ugly umbrella.Quote:

I know that "farang" used in the wrong way can be highly offensive, but used in a reasonable tone it ain't really that bad is it?
I'd sooner it wasn't used at all and confusion avoided.Quote:

^I know some people get pissed of when a Thai calls them 'Mr Christian name'.
^I don't like people to do it, they can call me Nick, or Sir, or Mister or Arsehole, but not Mr. Nick.
^Actually, it was an in joke.
I think I'll start a thread about it..Quote:

Yeah, it would be if farang just meant foreigner, most of the time I just accept it as a neutral term for white westerner (saves a lot of wear and tear on the anger glands) but on the other hand if they say ฝรั่งตาน้ำข้าว give them a slap:). Farang (the word) exists in lots of other SE Asian languages, anybody know if expats in those other countries get as annoyed by it as expats in Thailand.
^A few get a little peeved, but others take the attitude that you do.
eg:Cantonese.gwalio = white devil .Basically means foreigner though.
I thought I was the only person that got annoyed.Quote:

I don't shake hands, you never know if the hands was in the pant, finger in the nose or in the ear prior you shake it. Just say hello.
