No. Pasta has egg in it, noodles is boiled/steamed flour paste, with no egg. Ofcourse, you can get Egg Noodles, but these are egg noodles and not noodles.

So therefore, pasta is pasta, noodles are noodles.

In Italy, by the time you had got out your phrase book to look up egg noodles they would have cooked you the best pasta that you have ever eaten. And they are made with eggs. U toob is your friend.

What sort of remotely sensible person would think when they're eating a cup of 'Mama' that it's pretty much the same thing as Spaghetti Carbonara?

Having done some research on this it seems that in the US they refer to spaghetti as noodles but, let's be honest, the day we start following the lead of Americans in things gastronomic will be a cold day in hell.

Or maybe we should be copying Thai and calling orange juice 'orange water', fish sauce 'fish water' etc. After all they contain water so they're pretty much the same thing, eh?
    Counterpoint.
Historically, throughout Asia, noodles or noodle-types have been produced from every considerable flour one might think of [grains, legumes, tubers, plants, etc]. Including wheat......when Europeans were hanging from trees.

Asia Minor and Major, actually [Central Asia, ME]
And [again] diffused to the lower European civilisations [like everything].

No reason to spin a make-believe Eurocentric model upon influence and contributions - as it ain't true. Falacy.

You can have 7-9 with that post. Full of insight, and you explained the perception of pasta using the discourse of Western culture in an appropiate manner.

But, what about the known fact that pasta came to Italy from China all those hundreds of years ago.

Who cares, noodles are noodles and pasta is pasta. And they all taste great if you can make a good Carbonara with them.

The known "fact" as you put it is bullshit.

You would have to be fairly dim to think that various ancient western civilizations who subsisted primarily on a grain based diet didn't manage to independently come to the conclusion that you can mix flour with water (or egg) and steam or boil it......

It's an absurd 'argument' isn't it.

Like people in Sicily would have been nonplussed about what to eat and how to eat it without the previous 'example' of a place that might as well have been on a different planet.

That 'theory' opens up the possibility that fish and chips is from fucking mars.

I am dim, because i don't google everything before i make a stupid response to everything.

It actually comes out of my head. That is what i had read or was told.

I can actually write with joined up writing too.

I don't need to google everything to give the right answer, it comes from my brain and sometimes it is wrong, and i laugh about it and the right answer shall be in there somewhere, and it shall be remembered-

    Learn something new everyday.
