It was only this morning that I realised that the red wine explosion of the night before included a very generous splashing all across the nearby wall, up to the ceiling, akin to the fountain of blood that might occur when shooting someone in the head.

For some reason, the Cabernet Sauvignon spatters on the white wall have turned a lurid blue colour.

I think I'll have to pay for the hotel room to be redecorated - at some time in the distant future when I check out.

^ This story reminds of when my old man dabbled in the "home brew" kits you could buy in Boots the Chemist. All was well until the pipework got blocked up, (a stone from one of the fruits) jammed, and the pressure built up. We came down one morning to find the wall and ceiling splattered with this damson coloured paint job. Out came the paint brushes!!!

10 Ways to Open a Bottle Of Wine Without a Corkscrew

The one with shoe is excellent. Cheers.
I just watched that shoe video. Amazing!

In the 10 videos, I didn't spot anyone trying to remove the cork using the tip of a brolly, presumably because losing 25% of the wine all across the room is not acceptable.

A bottle of Spitfire Kentish Ale to toast the arrival of my Eisernes Kreuz 2. Klasse

Bitter dry hoppy start with a fruity finish.

    Decent Ale and pic.

Worthy of a thread in its own right.

My kids ceiling has quite a few WW2 airfix planes recreating the battle of Britain. All suspended by dental floss and drawing pins.

Haven't gotten bladdered on cider for a while. Don't suppose they do flagons of 6% Scrumpy Jack in there? Grew up on those.

No Scrumpy jack, not strong enough for me it has to be 7% or above.

A cup of tea (with a view) solves everything, including my hangover.

Plotting my move for tonight. Bar hopped around lower Suk last night- seedy and touristy but fun regardless.

Thanks CCC. I should maybe start a thread on the Air War Museum sometime as my shelf space is running out.

I had loads of them hanging from my ceiling too when I was a kid. They were destroyed in the back garden round about 1983 in a fiery re-enactment of the Battle of Britain. Setting engines alight one by one and flying them round the garden with flaming bombs of molten fiery plastic dripping from the fuselages and wings!

Open a bottle of wine with a shoe:

After the fiasco a few days ago, when I redecorated my hotel room and bed sheets with red wine, I was encouraged by the videos of people opening bottles of corked wine with only the aid of a shoe and a wall.

So I tried the same thing this evening.

You can watch my YouTube video clip to see how I got on:

    Good effort Simon!

You have got the umbrella technique down to a fine art.

Maybe that original shoe demonstration video was posted on April 1st with some sneaky freeze-frame bottle switch shenanigans

... also, not sure if that protein whey is working as advertised...!

get some tips from Ant ... he is around somewhere

Ah, yes easy to spot LoL. But my plan is to drop all the flab off until I am a thin and puny old man, AND then really work on the upper body muscles to transform that pathetic body into a rippling torso.

Right now, I have dropped 9Kg - my top ab is visible and I have beautiful legs (because of my daily cycling). I still need to drop a little more flab and then it is protein, protein and gym work to build up my upper chest muscles.

It's a fact that cyclists usually have muscular legs and puny arms (unless they ride one of those arm-powered bikes).

I'll snap a photo of my legs for a poll....

Good effort, cutting out booze will lower your estrogen levels and decrease your moobs. Cut right down on carbs, especially sugar.

You need around 13 inches (lean, no fat) around your calves and a similar mass of meat around your upper arms to be healthy, depending on height.

Then, what are you going to do with all that extra skin you've built up over the years around your abdomen, chest, back and arms?

    Let it flap?

PS. You don't need a gym.
Get some resistance bands, a couple of 5kg dumbbells and a couple of hand grips, use them for intermittent short bursts of reps frequently through the day.

Carry the resistance bands and hand grips around with you, they're very conveniently portable, you can use them while working at your desk, while push ups and squats you can do anywhere.

Just keep moving, your chair's the biggest killer you've got.

Do squats and pushups. Do the lot, half an hour a day

Best method I found for opening a bottle of wine without a corkscrew was to use a hypodermic syringe and large (14 gauge) 6 cm long needle with a large capacity, 20cc or so, syringe, the larger the better.

First, with the plunger removed, hold the plunger cylinder body and carefully push the attached needle right through the centre of the cork. Re-insert and press the plunger. The added air pressure pushes the cork out gently after about three repeats.
