Was in the BigC today and saw this ...

I like to try new things ... especially Beer.

    So, bought a tallie.

    More expensive then Beer Singa.

Here is a review (one of many) ...

    2.3
    AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
    jmgreenuk (8488) - Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA - JUL 28, 2016
Bottle at Brew Beers and Ciders, Sukhumvit. Poured a clear straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is light yeast, mineral cardboard, some hops. The flavour is moderate to light bitter with a grainy mineral light hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Pretty awful to be honest, but drinkable on a hot day when there is nothing else!
    Rate my beer
    .
^ Fairly accurate. I'd add my preference usually is for a more malty/hopped beer so this is a bit sweet for my taste. Probably go down a treat on a stinker of a day. 5% Alc

update ... by the third gulp, some of the apparent sweetness seemed more subdued and the light hoppiness became more to the for.

Anyone else drunk/drink Phuket Larger Beer?

Saw this stuff in Big C.

Never saw or heard anything about it anywhere.

I quite like malt beer, but they only had 7 cans of it. Would only be getting up a thirst and they'd be fokin' gone, so left them be.

Anyone else seen them around at all?

Tonight will finish off my Glenlivet 18 year..........BTW, last month I opened my 21yr Glenmorangie....Man was that a bottle of sheer joy. I shared with 2 of my Sr Mgrs here after work, we killed the entire bottle. First thing I told them was, No Ice, No Soda, No Coke. I see any of that crap anywhere near us and you are banned from drinking it and you can enjoy some Blend 283 or whatever that crap is or Ya Dong. After they tasted it using the proper Scotch glass of course, they now say they can no longer drink the local crap. I think I ruined them

Federbrau has been around for quite a while now... at least 6 years that I know of. Only available in Tescos. large bottles are also available. Pretty decent enough for the price but nothing remarkable.

    ^ Yup.

But this is 100% Single Malt Federbrau.

    Different to the normal stuff.

Unless they've just changed the packaging and are marketing it as Single Malt.

I've never been able to get into the top shelf. My preference has always been for a good beer or an occasional bottle of red, but the idea of a wee drop of something pleasant before bed sounds good.

Any recommendations that won't break the bank but are still worth drinking?

Glenmorangie 10 yr old single malt.

Better than most 12 yr olds in the same price range.

    Have a read on google.

    Around 2k baht.

If the room is hot or very warm, ice is nice. Wanting cold liquid in such a circumstance is just civilized. Not crushed ice, one or two big cubes.

Yes, quite nice. Very drinkable. And not too expensive (THB 79, IIRC, for a 330ml bottle).

Nice. Haven't had cider in a long long time.

Which is quite surprising as we used to love it on a hot summer's day back home.

HAd a few tots of Glenlivet 18 YO last week. He brought it out just after I gave a mate a bottle of Laphroaig 10 YO.
    Much preferred the Laphroaig.

Envy the 21 Glenmorangie. Mother's milk.

Having just got back, it's Meyers Rum for me this arvo.

Agreed. Anything 18 and up is delicious. Last year when back in the states 3 of us pitched in and bought a 40 yr Glen. It was actually kind of sad to open it but that is once in a lifetime deal. At $680 a bottle it was worth my 1/3. We sat. Talked shit. Played some cards and again emptied the bottle. It was worth every sniff and sip.

    My boys just turned 3.

Somehow, I don't think I'll be forking out $680 each for a bottle of the good stuff in 15 years time.

What is good to buy now, at an affordable price which has a reasonable chance of maturing well?

I'm in Australia most of the time.

^^ When my daughter was born I bought her a gold Buddha necklace amulet, it took ages to actually find one that was actually tasteful, that she'll get on her 18th or 21st.

Are you looking for something for them to drink on their 18th?

In which case it will probably be skulled back with their mates without any thought about what it is, or something they will keep?
