In western/Asian relationships - how much is conversation a factor in that relationship and does lack of it lead to break ups?

Is it really important to have intelligent conversation providing she gives love and affection and you have friends close by to meet your conversational needs r.e. football, movies, politics etc..?

i found that my wife taking an interest in football was a terrible thing. In fact i stopped watching it if she was watching. As a non-university educated Singaporean chinese she can converse in all subjects except politics.
And that still didnt help.

Now is it better to have a more westernised, intelligent but perhaps less attractive woman who you can have a deep conversation with yet who may be less likely to tolerate your idiosyncrasies and divorce you OR is it sometimes better to have a more traditional woman who you feel safe with and who you find funny, quirky and atractive and who would make a great mother yet lacks the ability to converse about anything very deep and who won't be the most social person when introduced to your family or friends.

The latter may not be very modern but it works for some does it not?
