I've got a liking for sticky rice dipped in Maggi sauce. I'd eat it anytime given the chance. Boiled rice or fried rice about once a month.

Maybe two times a week, and one of those is a pilaf I make. If you include sticky rice its one more time a week. We have a great Isaan cook in the house.

cos I recently bought a big bag of Italian brown rice and was then told that it will have large amounts of arsenic innit, innit.

Should we eat grains? Should we eat the paleo diet? So much conflicting shit out there I'm gonna dish out some roundhouses soon.

Surely if there was too much arsenic in it it wouldn't be on sale? How much is too much anyways?

Researchers have found arsenic in all rice products tested. And white rice had the highest amounts. Also, organic brown rice syrup, also tested high in arsenic. Arsenic is naturally occurring in rice. But curcumin, the active ingredient in the spice turmeric is effective against the harmful impact of arsenic according to a recent study reported in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition.

My cursory research into this says brown rice contains the most arsenic and that the good people of Bangladesh contain even more.

I always add a good dollop (word!) of tumeric in my curries, good shit that is, stains like a mofo, though.

Hope so, but my mate Dave from the coach & horses says big pharma want us to get cancer so they can make money from the pills.

That's a fairly healthy rice habit you have there, Makmak. Is it sustainable, is it healthy and what are these "western" foods you have cut back on?

I Be careful with the turmeric - alittle goes a long way and it provides quite a bitter taste.

I eat rice about 5 days per week if not more.
I get withdrawal symptoms if I go 3-4 days without it

    Eat rice daily.

Potatoes knock fuck out of me after I've been in Asia for more than a few months. Need a kip after a baked potato.

Rice is only bad for you if you eat a lot of it and are diabetic. If diabetic, you should only have 2 medium scoops of rice per meal. I eat one medium baked potato in place of rice, sometimes. Sometimes I don't eat either one - I just have two slices of whole wheat toast. That's it per meal unless you don't care about you blood sugar level. The rest of your meal should be steamed fish and plenty of vegetables.

I'm starting to think that all grains are bad for us, bread, rice, pasta, even spuds, all of those nice things probably fuck us up and cause all sorts of health problems, even acne, just ask socal, that spotty fucker likes his morning toast and a bowl of pasta.

Not all grains are bad. Rye, barley and oats make excellent and healthy breads, and once you tried rye pasta, several times as expensive as wheat pasta, you appreciate the difference. Those grains can't be grown in Thailand, and up North where they grow they produce lower returns than maize and wheat. It's a business thing that we have to eat shit.

Or if you're not diabetic, but want to be, eat sticky rice 3 times a day. Like most Isaan 'food', it's poison.

CMG is a winner but do you ever think about how the chicken lived and what it ate? I want to eat a chicken that lived longer than a month or so and who actually saw daylight. A chicken that could go outside and hook up with his mates for a chinwag and a little peck around the yard, are you feeling me or do you think I'm a kunt?
