is it illegal to drink in the bars in nana?

according to a poster who isnt a lawyer, theres a possibility that its illegal to drink in the gogos and girlie bars in nana, i doubt it, but the said poster is willing to bet that it is.

what do you all think about it? is it illegal to drink in a bar that also sells girls as well as siprits and beer?

^^ There are no bars in Nana that 'sell girls' so that is logically impossible.

In practice all the bars that have girls "who you can compensate the bar for the privilege of removing them from the establishment for a period of time" have (a very easily obtainable) alcohol license.

I believe prostitution is illegal in Thailand, therefore many people are on the wrong side of the law.

A bar fine is not prostitution. You are paying to let the girl have an early end to her work day.

^ how does that work; that's a Papillion statement if ever I heard one!

And the Belgian fluffer has stated how much he enjoys Nana Plaza, something about 3rd floor at the back, I don't know (I always presumed he went there to visit the Viewsonic shop), but Kwang could tell you more...

^ What has a Viewsonic shop got to do with ladyboys? Is that why Papillion likes his Viewsonic so much, a kind of code???

I remember Kwang once mentioning that his very best nights out in Bangkok were in Nana Plaza on the 3rd floor, but again, I just though he was shopping for an iDevice; you lot are really very seedy with your knowledge of these places, I will take my innocense elsewhere. I might pop to the Sony shop...

A quaint reversal; Thai custom requires that if customers like the girls who work there, they must buy them new phones. And new houses, motorbikes, and....

Think it's like this , running a brothel is a big no no and people farangs and Thais have been arrested. A bar is there to sell beer etc the girls work as hostesses. If they choose to leave with a punter and make some sort of deal, that is up to them not the bar. Bar fine is to compensate the bar for the loss of a hostess.
Know many bars that skate a bit close to the wind and some will get busted now and then. Even out here in the jungles there are karaoke bars with girls and no farangs to be seen. Jim

Who's the poster you are on about?

I'm on the "very much doubt it" view BTW.
As I'm not a lawyer, I cannot disprove it though.

I believe in places where envelopes and cake boxes change hands, the overriding principle is:

cessante ratione legis cessat ipsa lex.

Us fatheads are not as erudite as you, Harry. Some may think you got that out of an Asterix comic.

Translation from the Latin : When the reason for the law ceases, the law itself ceases.
