Just watched the recent Oz/NZ League test.
Considerably better viewing than the rather dour (albeit tense) RWC final tbh.

Stick to League then, it's simpler for Australians to understand.

    We won't miss you.

How the fuck does that work???????????????????
The IRB know that England can easily beat Wales, so they took that into the equation.

Just the usual crap that the English have been dishing out to the Welsh for centuries,

Of course, Marmite, being English is full of the same shit.

Aren't you Marmy, ya Pommy bastard?
Just the usual crap that mates have been dishing out to each other for centuries, you mean?

Bob took it in good humour when I had a beer with him last weekend, so I'm not sure why you've got your knickers in a twist.

I happily watch both, just as I once played both.
Union is a 'better' game, or could be- there is more to it. But after ref's whistles and kicking, you often don't see that much 'rugby'.
League is a simpler game, but often better to watch. You see more rugby- tackles, hits, running, passing, scoring.
I think there is a strong case to be made for amending the points system, to encourage more Tries or attempted Tries, basically. More running, and less kicking.
On that basis, the extra elements of rugby such as mauling, rucking etc would work to it's benefit in attracting viewers. It is a great game that should (and could) be greater than it is to watch.

Only if you're into crap like basketball. League simply doesn't have the dynamics, drama or strategy that Union does and is DULL.

Rugby League certainly has it's place and as proof of this was the last State of Origin Series not to mention the Australian ARL Grand Final which was a beauty to watch.

To compare the two codes is impossible as they are completely different games and those that have played both codes knows what I am talking about.

Agree I like League to a point, it's a different game, but why trytomake them more similar. As an international spectacle it's a joke, SOO and NRL is the only RL worth watching, but I'd much rather watch NFL given a choice.

I wouldn't pay a cent to watch a rugby union game, itys just garbage, as the RWC more than amply demonstrated.

Trouble with rugger is that its just basically degenerated into a tag-team wrestling bout, with an attending goalkicker when the ref dishes out the penalties.

At least in Rugby League there is some structure and flair to the game, and tries are scored.

As has been said, the jewels in the crowns are the SOO and Aussis Grand Final, and the poms Challenge cup final .

Rugger just cannot match them competitions in any respect.

Yep. if I want to watch a tag-team wrestling bout I'll watch someone whose good at it, like Les Kellet or Mick Mc Manus

The objective is not to make the games more similar, that is a non sequitur.
Like it or not though, Union has followed League in several respects, such as more mobile, versatile Forwards.
The objective is simply to make rugby a better and bigger spectator sport. Thus make more money.
Strange how many RU afficionado's have this 'siege mentality'- you'd have though it would be the League guys really.

The "RU" have it because for all their dirty tricks and shitmongering, over the years, they lost the professional battle with League.

All that hypocritical crap spouted by the rugger elite about its amateur status, against the League professionalism, was just that ....crap.

League came about because the "Amateur rugger elite" would not pay the working class participants expenses to compensate their lost time at work.

They tried everything to destroy the more principled League working class game"

How the worm had to turn.

They were exposed for the hypocrites they are, and eventually had no choice but to admit their error, and concur with the League principles to pay players.

Rugger union has never got over it , that it got it wrong, League beat them

And you have since seen the rugger authorities continually changing the rules in an effort to make it something entertaining, and failing desperately in my view.

In fairness, RU going professional did turn it into a bigger sport. Had to happen, really.
Now they pinch some players & coaching staff from League.
