Incredible smash yesterday.. Some very lucky spectators
Racetrack accident corner is safe: Motorsports group
Around 10 cars a year crash at the corner at Ipswich's Queensland Raceway where a Mini dramatically flipped over protective barriers and injured three people yesterday, according to Raceway manager John Tetley.
And he said local driver Sarah Harley crashed but was uninjured at Queensland Raceway's turn 6 this morning, he said.
Queensland Raceway manager John Tetley said the corner was not one of the problem areas for the 11-year-old raceway.
"We have possibly 10 cars a year go in at turn 6," Mr Tetley said.
"Usually it is from brake fade and sometimes from brain fade."
John Tetley described the incident yesterday where a Mini driven by 22-year-old North Queenslander Kain Magros cartwheeled over protective barriers as a "freak" accident, "with a huge amount of good luck".
Deflective barriers push the Mini up over the heads of spectators at the front, he said.
