I'm utterly amazed at your inability to realise that they have one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe playing for them, the European Golden Shoe winner this season. It is a fact. What does it matter if he starts as centre forward, which there are calls in Portugal for him to do, or wide with a license to wander? The end result is that he scores loads. It clearly doesn't matter if he likes to drop off the front to find space and pick up the ball, you won't find him on the halfway line when Portugal are in the final third.

I backed Holland at 15/1 and Portugal at 8/1 pre tournament. I didn't make either of them favourites, personally, but they both have a good chance and were great value at the price. If you wish to oppose them with your house, you can lay Portugal at around 11/2.

    Now we have:

Spain v Russia Tough to call, I've been disappointed by Spain far too often, always saying that they'll be a major force at this and that tournament . . . same old, same old.

    Spain 1 Russia 2

    and

Greece v Sweden Greece had the highest qualifying round points and are not just there for show whereas Sweden doesn't have any top players, and Ibrahimovic is out of form. Rehagel is a genius and will have a good game plan mapped out for the game.

    Greece 2 Sweden 1

As I said yesterday I have a double on Holland and Spain, nervous about Spain as they seem to take time to settle in and although Russia haven't got the "superstars" are still very capable.
Greece and Sweden is an interesting one and am edging towards a fraw but will wait for team line ups to be announced before placing the bet

I realise he is an outstanding player and scored many great goals this season at club level.
He plays as an attacking midfielder for Portugal and essentially the playmaker and Portugal would benefit from a striker such as Torres or Van Nistlerooy to be in the box to complete Ronaldo's crosses.
This is the Finals of an international Competition and defences are better than the likes of Fulham, Birmingham and Sunderland and will be more restrictive and Ronaldo I feel will get frustrated with his strikers and try and do everything himself.
I am in no way doubting the class of Ronaldo it is the class of team mates around him that I doubt, If Ronaldo were to get injured I think it is fair to say everyone including yourself would write their chances of glory at the champioships off. I hope he doesn't get injured because the game needs players with his pace, ability and flair not less.
Would love to see Spain win the competition if they don't then the Dutch or ze Germans

Spain did look good although the Russians looked more dangerous at the start, I met David Villa many years ago when he was playing at Sporting Gijon (grandfather involved at the club at the time) and he said he loves the club and wants to stay there for the whole of his career, 3 months later he f*cked off to Zaragoza the lying prick, but still a great striker well taken hat-trick.
Not got much interest in the Greece V Sweden game but fancy the Swedes going against you againt Panama hat so just a small single wager on this one.
Did anyone else notice the Czech goal scorers celebration the other night? slapping his arm around the inner elbow part followed by kissing it! is he thanking the drugs he injected himself with prior to the game??1

Spain did look very classy, as expected. It's close between themselves and Holland as to who has looked the best so far. You'd probably have to say it's the Dutch considering the opposition they beat. A game between those two in the semis would be great to see.

Good to see the negative Greeks busy getting what they deserve as well. Maybe they'll have to come out and try and play football in what is left of their tournament.

Why a small wager!!!! 8/5 against Greece was too good to turn down but thought my luck was going to run out.

    It seems I have keyboard problems . . . numbers tend to become inverse . . .

What the hell was that by the Spanish??? Villa? Are they out to prove me wrong the first time I don't support them? It is a conspiracy!

Russia? Geez, get it together, and as for Greece? Booooo . . . Ibrahimovic is now an honorary Dutchman for me . . . the prick. Excellent goal.

Credibility? Did I have any to start with?

    So I stand 4-4 . . .

Off to work now but I will study the charts for the next batch . . . astral charts, as I can't do much worse.

Ok, post edited to 'predict' tonight's matches:

    Czech Rep. 1-2 Portugal
Czechs too slow and Portugal brimming with confidence after their last game, Ronaldo wills score as he needs to prove he is the best and not be outdone by his scoring team mates.

    Switzerland 1-1 Turkey

Looking at their last bloody encounter this one might have the first red card . . . to the Turks . . . and pretty much eliminate them both from the tournament.

The first casualty of war is innocence and Turkey and Switzerland are the first casualties of Euro2008 (though I do hope the Swiss pull it off to win and have the chance to make it to the next round)

You read it here first, gents, and I have consulted Madam Angela, the local mystic.

Paddypower.com offering 4/1 on the Czech's which I think is very generous.
Milan Baros looks set to Partner Koller upfront as they return to a 4-4-2 formation after playing a defensive 4-5-1 against the Swiss a game in which they were quite fortunate to win in my opinion.
Odds of 5/2 are on offer for Czech's to win with the bet being refunded if outcome is a draw.
At this point I am gonna grip my bollocks tightly and go for the Czech's, they beat the hosts at home and today playing with Baros uprfront will add extra firepower going for Czechs also partly due to my new found hatred of Portugal but will wait until team line ups for confirmation.
    Czech Republic 1-0 Portugal

Switzerland V Turkey a horrible game to try and predict as not know too much about either squad since the days of Hakan Suker and Stefan Chapuisat, Would have tipped the Swiss at home but losing their very influencial captain Frei also fellow striker Marco Streller picked up an injury although due to play may be fighting the pain barrier and be not very effective.
I will go for a boring 0-0 draw though whether I bet on the game I am unsure at present and the fact Panama Hat has gone for a draw also makes me think be better off keeping my money in my pocket!
    Switzerland 0 - 0 Turkey

well you have gone for a draw in each, I have gone for a Czech win and Draw in other, so essentially no
Come on th Czech's lets hope Baros can recreate his form from last championships although I wish Koller was upfront holding the ball up for him, And let;s see if Chech can live up to being labelled as possibly best keeper in Europe if not the world

Interesting first half, shocking defence for Portugal goal.
as expected Nuno Gomes being used for nothing more really than a decoy runner, Portugal hitting everything from outside the box.
Czech coach needs to wake up and see he needs another striker upfront inorder to win this game, Baros playing as a lone striker has been picking up the ball from the half wayline too many times

oh well this one goes the way of the bookies, still not a bad ratio, with my Holland to beat Italy bet doubled with Spain still the jewel in my crown so far.
if there is a winner in this next game the Czechs will be under serious pressure and I think the blame will have to go to the manager for bringing on a second striker to late in the game today.

    Hahaha, you are so modest!

Going out of town for the day and not sure if I can write later on, so Madam Grizelda (I have changed mediums) tells me:

Croatia 1-2 Germany The bugbears who were rough as guts to beat Germany during their last international championships will be on the losing side tonight as Gomes hits as well as Klose. Lehman will do a good job, scaring the faithful shitless with his 'unorthodox' clearances.

    Austria 0-1 Poland
And here goes the second host nation, Poland have something to prove and Austria has a nice landscape as well as von Trapp.

    The orb has spoken.

missed this post did you NickA??

Don't really like gambling unless I see what starting XI a managers choses, so I waited until last minute before placing bet, just like Turkey waited until the last minute to enusre I won.
