Press slams 'spineless' India after Test loss to England

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni faced criticism from the nation's press on Sunday for his "bizarre" tactics during the side's humiliating loss to England, while his batsmen were slammed for their "spineless surrender".
Lacklustre India lost the fourth Test at Old Trafford on Saturday by an innings and 54 runs, handing England an unbeatable 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Under the back-page headline "Spineless Surrender", the Times of India lashed out at the country's batsmen for refusing to fight back in their second innings.
The newspaper said the batsmen had made millions of dollars playing "slam-bang" limited-overs cricket, but failed to hone their skills for Test matches, the sport's most demanding format.
"Faced with the onerous task of saving the match, India's 'Young Millionaires' did not even attempt to save face," its correspondent wrote.
"Instead they flaunted a flamboyant approach, so typical of limited-overs cricket, to bring about a quick end to the fourth Test.
"So pathetic was India's display that their second innings lasted just 43 overs."
The press praised England's "focus and determination", singling out Stuart Broad for his "heroic bowling". Broad, who retired hurt after breaking his nose while batting early on Saturday, was named man of the match.
Dhoni came under fire for his "bizarre team tactics" that included failing to start India's bowling attack on Saturday with top-performing seamers Varun Aaron and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, the Hindustan Times said.
With the headline "Fold Trafford", the Sunday Express said that although Dhoni batted well during the match, he "desperately needs a crash course in the art of Test match captaincy".
India was praised last month when it won the second Test against England at Lord's, securing the team's first overseas victory for three years.
That win eased pressure on Dhoni, who was facing calls to quit, and raised hope that India had turned the corner after poor performances since the retirement of batting greats including Sachin Tendulkar.
But the media said on Sunday that it seemed this was "just an illusion" and India's problems persisted.

Broad set to play wearing face mask
Along with the bum fluff on his face and broad nose he doesn't look like a ladyboy anymore at least
Wonder what the face mask will look like?England have named an unchanged squad for the fifth Test at The Oval, starting on Friday, with Stuart Broad included despite suffering a fractured nose when batting at Old Trafford on Saturday. Broad tweeted a picture of his injury, which required stitches and a trip to hospital, on Sunday morning and suggested he could play while wearing a protective mask.
Do you think this one would suite him Bob?

I think he should lighten things up a bit, the wobblies need cheering up.

Kiwi cricketer Jimmy Neesham tweets photo of bat destroyed by US Customs
WE all know it can be a bit annoying when you collect your baggage after a long flight and find your lock broken or your luggage clearly tampered with.
Now imagine if your luggage didn’t just contain clothes, but an item you needed in order to do your job.
Now imagine that item wasn’t just tampered with, but had holes drilled in it.
That’s exactly what happened to New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham after his cricket bat had an unfortunate run-in with a power drill, allegedly at the hands of overzealous US airport officials.
Neesham is currently playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, and had to fly via the States as part of the tournament’s hectic travel schedule.
After a star turn in Friday’s match against the Antigua Hawksbills, in which he took a stunning one-handed catch, Neesham tweeted this image of his bat.

It seems Stuart has some ideas of his own.....

The mask on the right that harry posted would protect his nose the best, but along with his helmet I think the hanibal mask would give him the best all round protection. Wonder if he will wear it when he is bowling![]()

The Indians are crap, making us look good...
You speak the truth Betty.
They even made Woakes and Jordan look good.
It was only 2 tests ago 6 former England captains were calling for Cook to quit the captaincy but a few cheap runs against some pretty ordinary bowling and some horrible batting from the Indians and Alastair is looking all cocky again
Cook should have shown faith in his bowlers and declared 20 min before stumps. Letting root get his ton?
Don't be an idiot Waffly, faith in his bowlers that he can't afford to let Root get his ton and still have more than two days to bowl them out?
It's called aggressive captaincy Harry. Which we all know is something Alastair isn't known for .... I didn't really expect Cook to declare - though I wouldn't have put it past Clarke

You have to admit the Indians have been diabolical in the field. They have dropped dolly after dolly - including one when Cook was on 5 before he reached his 90's in the 2nd test. There is no question England has the better bowling, and the Indian trundlers really have dished out a higher % of tasty pies.
On the contrary my smelly friend. Australia is watching this charade from afar and we can smell 0 - 5long way to go for England before i feel confident enough to predict England 5 Australia 0.
Alastair is so cocky he is calling Anderson the most skilful bowler in the world and even said he in the same class as Steyne![]()
We are not a particularly good side, but... Cook getting runs, gaining confidence, getting in nick (and hopefully improving his technique) is a good thing. Balance, Bell and the youngster getting runs is a good thing. The opening bowlers doing well, at home, in their perfect conditions, is a good thing. The new wicket keeper is gaining confidence. The back up bowlers are gaining experience and time in test cricket (Woakes has bowled pretty well).
We are in a better position now than we were 6 months and 3 months ago, even 1 month ago. But, we shouldn't get carried away, India are pathetic, we lost to SL who weren't much better, and we are not ready to take on the big guns of SA and Pakistan () with any confidence, yet.
We need more. Gotta get Finn in and pushing for an opening bowler spot. Need to get that Bok back in (maybe as opener?) if he can sort his mind out and get back to run scoring. Generally need to up our game plenty more if we're gonna be competitive at the next Ashes series.
