Remember the catch Marsh took in that semi final off Gilmour to get Tong Grieg?

SL have a very poor record playing away tests. Really hope they beat the poms and demoralize them even more.

Bet you do.... Bell has a 50 at last some real cricket.

NZ also completed a big win over the West Indies today for whom Shillingford scored the second fastest 50 in test history batting at the death.

Little boy Root scores a ton and Prior shows some form with the bat for the first time in months, which prolly feels like years for Bob and Betty.

Cook failed again. Time for him to give up the captaincy and focus on his batting? He's a rubbish captain anyway.

Sri Lanka got the early wickets expected when putting a team in on the first morning of a Lords Test but then as the moisture and cloud disappeared, England dominated.

As for Cook, no one cared when he set all sorts of records batting as captain.

We'll judge him after the summer, you worry about your own team.

Cook has been clueless since he lost players to rely on such a Trott, KP & Swann. No plan B...

Yes. He should be able to work on his average on green English pitches. If not, he's not doing the team any favours.

Any batsmen ( besides Cook ) could score a ton on that deck. Gonna be a draw.

Cook has struggled that's not in doubt, no amount of waffle can gloss that over.

I think we give him the summer see how things go and judge him after that.

There are no other obvious candidates, most players haven't even cemented a place in the team.

    Captain Cook lost this test.

    The guy is a numpty.

If there was ONE thing he could have learned from the ashes is as captain you need to go for the jugular as Clarke does. He should have declared and put the Lankans in for the last half hour of play - as Clarke does and 9/10 it pays off for him.

Cook has the balls of an ant

"I didn't really move from my bar stool at first slip where I spent most of the day," a disappointed Cook told a news conference after missing the chance to win the first five-day match England had played since the 5-0 Ashes defeat by Australia Down Under.

Blah Blah Blah........ if we'd won you'd find a reason why we won despite him, worry about your own team, we happy with Cook.

Well done to Sri Lanka for holding out.

But how happy is Cook with the captaincy?

I reckon, and as you rightly pointed out, there are no other contenders and he has been saddled with the responsibility even though he deep down doesn't want the job.

Opening the batting is stressful enough and he is in desperate need to find form.

To open the batting and captain your country is the pinnacle for any batsman.

There's no way on earth he wants to be relieved of the captaincy

It was a batsman's paradise, as I believe Wally pointed out before, yet now England should have exploited the hidden terrors in the strip to the full.

Cook has a much better average without the captaincy. Some players thrive with the captaincy ( ie: Michael Clarke ) and some players don't.

I don't think it is any coincidence that Cook's purple patch was when he was facing Australia's worst bowling attack in decades and other trundlers. He has always been exposed against good bowling and has a poor record against all good bowling attacks .
