Let's all hope the Australian summer gives a better result then what we had this series.
Rain, or the constant threat of it plays havoc with this game and a dry ashes series is what we need.

1-1 to the weather
They should go back to allowing the batsmen to decide.
This rule is a farce, because it killed a game of cricket for the paying spectators, no matter who was going to win.
No the umpires fault, not Clarkes fault, but those who pay money deserve better.
I remember when we won a series in Pakistan because they slowed the rate to a crawl on day 5 to try and force the draw, but that was when it was up to the batsmen to take the light if offered.
Pakistan ended up losing because the batsmen only had to get bat on it and the fielders couldn't see, it was that dark.
It was quite hilarious seeing those cheating subcontinental riff raff almost in tears.
Now to be called:
The Splashes: England players celebrate Ashes victory by urinating on The Oval pitch
A number of players including Stuart Broad, Kevin Pietersen and Jimmy Anderson took it in turns urinating on the pitch to the cheers of their team mates.
This could be clearly seen from the outside overflow areas of the press box.
It would have been the only moisture applied to the pitch for quite some time given the deliberate dry and dusty nature of the pitches presented in this Test series to blunt Australia’s pace attack and aid spinner Graeme Swann, the highest wicket-taker in the series.

A good days play shame about the ending i am still in favour of the old rule offer the light to the batsmen.
Generous decision of the Aussie captain declaring and giving England a chance. We might have won if we had batted like that in the first innings.
We batted perfectly in the first innings and perfectly in the second.Originally Posted by klong toey

So, what have Australia taken from this tour?
(1) A whinge about Broad when even their own players said "The only time an Australian walks is when he runs out of petrol" (Now turned into an amusing Broad T-Shirt).
(2) A whinge about DRS, even though it mainly worked against them because they were too thick to use it properly.
(3) A whinge about the England players taking a piss outside after a celebratory session. I bet it was an Aussie grass who leaked it to the press.
Anyway, let's all enjoy the moment:
And we'll see you on Thursday for bash cricket.

Then you are right Willy, England are shit.
Play not to lose and end up winning 3-0, nearly 4-0....
That's fucking useless if you ask me.....

Congratulations to England on a well earned ashes series win.
England were just too good for us. There is a reason that England and SA are the two top test sides. They play patient and careful cricket and slowly wear the opposition down. Australia need to adopt this approach , as we just don't have the players do play the aggressive style which we did for so many years. That said, Australia will always play to win, and this won't change.
A few notes:
Credit needs to be given to the pommy bowlers for figuring out a way to get Clarke out . They obviously had a plan, and it worked.
Ian Bell has come a long way. There was a time when he was afraid of Australia , but not any more.
Broad is bowling better than ever, and he will be our biggest threat down under as conditions will suit him most out of the England pack.
As far as captaincy goes, Clarke has proven again that he makes the most of what he has. He uses his bowlers wisely and sets good fields. His positive style of cricket and use of his cricket smarts makes him the best captain in current world cricket.
Harris was the pick of the bowlers by far from both teams. Siddle was under used for a reason - Harris is a better version of his style of bowling.
Steve smith got a couple of 50's and an unbeaten 100, and has matured so much as a player, has cemented his place in the side. His leg spin has also proven handy and he took some big wickets when needed. He was once know as a bits and pieces player, but in this series he has shown the work he has done on his batting flaws has paid off, and showed he is a fine stroke player.
Rogers has also filled another one of our batting positions with some gritty big scores, and having him in the team has filled a huge void, which was much needed.
Starc took some wickets, leaked some runs, and made some runs as expected.
Pattinson got injured as expected.
Bird was toothless in his one test in conditions that should have suited him.
Faulkner took some wickets and showed some much needed toughness is the aus side.
Lyon bowled well and is obviously our best spinner, though underrated . Agar made some runs but did not do much with the ball - though he showed good temperament for a 19 year old and is a future prospect.
Watson bowled well, got a couple of big scores, and got out cheaply lbw a few times - that's Watson.
Haddin made some runs, and got out cheaply, took some good catches, and dropped a few easy ones - that's Haddin.
Warner was rubbish .
Kwawaja was rubbish - doesn't have the temperament.
Hughes made a fifty or two ( I think) and was unfairly dropped - though his flaws were exposed once again.
In a nut shell, it was pretty much as expected. Our bowling is world class, but our batting is still a problem.
BRing on the series down under!

Sorry I have to take issue with this statement, not in relation to your Aussies so much but the general use of the term.....Originally Posted by Wally Dorian Raffles

The only World Class bowler in that series was Swann and even then I don't feel that he is wholly worthy of the term.
Feel free to use the term if you feel it suits but for me world Class means the best in the world at what they do and there are only 11-15 world Class players in the World at any time.
To clarify though, Warne and mcGrath were better than World Class,...... they are worthy of the term All Time Greats
I thought Rogers was the pick of the Aussie batsmen. He was the only guy who you could trust to dig in and keep a level head.
While I gained respect for Clarke (or was it sympathy?) there's no way he's the best captain in test cricket. A bit of bias there methinks.
Harris was the best Aussie bowler - Swann the best bowler out there with Broad and Anderson making very significant contributions when it mattered. Those three and maybe Tremlett (who has done it before) or Bresnan (if fit) will tear through Australia in the return series which I predict England to win 3-1.
To think we have won an ashes Series 3-0 whilst 2 of our top line batsmen have failed and a third (Root) having looked good because of a single innings......
Prior has also failed to get the runs required......
It is both pleasing and worrying, if they find form, we will win in Australia, if not then it will go the other way.
I'm not for back to back Ashes series, but the plus side we don't have to wait long til we can lock horns again
Wally / Willy / LT it's been fun and you have taught me some new tactics to posting whilst losing.
LT has been contrite and magnanimous, the Wally & Willy show has drifted between the sublime and the ridiculous.
