yes - bowlers get sloppy when tired and when you have the wickets in hand you can have a serious go at everything

^The theory being the batting team should put their foot down starting from over 30, so they should score in the last 20 overs about the same as they scored in the first 30. That's also (in theory) when their best strike rate batsmen come in, typically 4th, 5th, 6th in the batting line up. The high strike rate batsmen normally don't open or come in at 1st or 2nd drop.

and stokes was a bit unlucky - some part of the bumbahs foot needs to be behind the crease when it lands or else it is a no ball and that was touch and go - the benefit of the doubt was given to the bowler

the wobblies have a bit of a job to win this and I am not sure they are up to it - I will look at the score tomorrow

Well done Poms, I only saw the first innings ... very entertaining. Roy is a special player.

Soooooooo ... what next for the Soap Dodgers?

England faces showdown with New Zealand

England plays 2015 finalist New Zealand in its last group game at Durham on Wednesday. Two days later Pakistan plays Bangladesh at Lord's. It wasn't only bad news for Pakistan. Sri Lanka can no longer advance to the last four.

India remains second with a game in hand — facing Bangladesh at Edgbaston on Tuesday and Sri Lanka on Saturday at Headingley — but Kohli's team is no longer unbeaten.

"Every team has lost a game or two here and there. No one likes to lose but we have to take it in our stride. We have to accept it," Kohli said.

"We are still playing good cricket. The mood is the same in the changing room. We will learn from it and move forward."

I cannot help to suspect that India threw the game last night to make it harder for Pakistan to make the semis.

Their bowling was well below par and they didn't seem to ever look close to achieving the winning target.

I have also read somewhere to finish second in the final group was an advantage.

I don't know how that works.

^Doubt that India would give up their unbeaten streak on purpose, especially at Edgbaston in front of a massive Indian crowd. The batsmen didn't get going at all mainly due to some excellent bowling (and fielding) by England, especially at the start of the innings.
Good to see Roy back in the England team, and Bairstow doing his talking with the bat. Roll on the Black Caps.

^I would have to disagree. Watched the entire game and when India needed to start hitting 6's they were happy to push singles and jog between the wickets taking any chance of a 2 out of the equation, and relieving pressure off the fielders. As soon as it got to needing 10 an over (with 5 wickets in hand) and Dhoni at the crease they'd normally start hoiking boundaries, or getting out trying to. Half a dozen 6's and 4's and they're in a strong position to win at the stage, a postion we've all seen them win from many times before.

They dogged it to make life hard for their best friends and neighbours, Pakistan.

^ That's exactly the same way I saw it!

Anyway the result, although conjured up by the Indians, made things a lot more interesting.
