AUSTRALIAN captain Ricky:Ponting has won the toss and chosen to bat first in stifling conditions in the one-day match against New Zealand in Perth.
Australia have made one change to the side that lost by 39 runs to South Africa on Friday night, with speedster Shaun Tait replacing Tasmanian Ben Hilfenhaus.
Craig Cumming has been named 12th man for the visitors after wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum passed a fitness test on his injured hip and was cleared to play.
The mercury has already crept above 34C, with the chance of a late thunderstorm forecast.
Australia will be looking to bounce back following their humiliating 4-1 series loss to South Africa, which saw the Proteas leapfrog Ricky Ponting's men into top spot on the one-day rankings.
Australia will regain their No.1 mantle if they defeat the Kiwis.
Australia: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Nathan Bracken, Brad Haddin, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Shaun Marsh, Shaun Tait, David Warner, Ben Hilfenhaus (12th man).
New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (capt), Neil Broom, Grant Elliott, Peter Fulton, Martin Guptill, Kyle Mills, Brendon McCullum, Iain O'Brien, Jeetan Patel, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor, Craig Cumming (12th man).

It's quite a few Nashi-Gorans though
2 run outs and especially their 2 best batsman doesn't help.
KW I still think your monumental bet is still safe!
i hope so.Originally Posted by Loy Toy

Given the Haddin incident I don't think australia would have been able to hold its head up in world cricket circles if they had done that!Originally Posted by kingwilly

*walks off muttering*
Depends whether you think he was culpable.
it seems that his gloves removed the bails rather than the ball and he told ponting that the ball hit the stumps. Therefore the batsman was given out bowled.
It was at a rather crucial time in the NZ innings.
However they won anyway, but I don't think Rickey will push Danny to retract his innuendo!
I would have to see the replay to make a judgement but if he cheated then I wish he never plays for Australia again.
And after they have viewed the incident and if Haddin is found to have cheated the selectors should drop him.
Our last wicket keeper Gily was the most honest sportsman you will ever find!
