    Atlanta Braves

When they visit South Florida the cheering is louder for the Braves than it is for the Marlins.

The Atlanta Braves are an American professional baseball team based in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The Braves compete in Major League Baseball as a member club of the National League East division.

The Braves are the oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in America.

The Braves are one of the two remaining National League charter franchises that debuted in 1876. The club has won an MLB record 22 divisional titles, 18 National League pennants, and four World Series championships. The Braves are the only Major League Baseball franchise to have won the World Series in three different home cities.

I was working at the Delta hub in Atlanta when the Braves won the World Series in 1995 (?). Fantastic atmosphere in all the bars, restaurants and hotels. Had something to talk about where ever you went, which is pretty important for a shy traveller like myself.

I had the chance to go to one of the games but ended up having to work that day, several colleagues went and said it was an excellent day out. I ended up watching the Falcons get thrashed, which was actually another super day out. Sport is different in the USA but still very exciting and a great day's entertainment.

I have never attended a World Series game. Partly because Miami didn’t have a baseball team when I was growing up and was busy when they did make it to the World Series (1997 & 2003).

Was in a restaurant/bar in 2003 with some Hispanic woman watching the World Series and fans were screaming. It was nice to see the support. South Florida was lit up with excitement. Could not miss the cars traveling with window flags, t-shirts or street corner banners.

Pity what happened afterwards to the team.

Just about halfway into the MLB season and the Braves hold the best record in the National League

    .
True, but they’ve only been in Atlanta for 53 years. Professional baseball started in Cincinnati, in 1869, and has been there ever since.

The best record in MLB. The Braves have overtaken the Rays.

    It’s still early.

2023 MLB power rankings: Phillies rise again, evaluating every team at All-Star Break

    #1 - Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves are the best team in MLB. Not only are the Braves the hottest team in MLB, our No. 1 team in the MLB power rankings became the first club to reach 60 wins this year. Plus, Atlanta is top-three in runs scored, slugging, OBP, team ERA and ranks eighth in batting average allowed. Bet on Atlanta to win the National League and they’re easily the World Series favorite.

    #2 - Tampa Bay Rays

Shane McClanahan is on the injured list, the latest in a season full of blows to a once-great rotation. The Tampa Bay Rays’ starters have a 4.33 ERA since June 15 (15th in MLB) and the lineup has only produced a .707 OPS (17th in MLB) during that 33-game run. That’s why Tampa Bay has gone from a historically-great start to opening up the AL for its rivals.

The Atlanta Braves were stripped of 12 prospects, and their former general manager was banned from baseball for life on Tuesday, the most significant penalties in an unprecedented punishment for what the league said was a three-year circumvention of international signing rules.

The 12 prospects are free to sign with any other team. The most heralded among them, Venezuelan shortstop Kevin Maitan, 17, signed for $4.25 million in 2016, when he was ranked by Baseball America as the top international amateur prospect.

John Coppolella, who resigned as the Braves’ general manager last month amid the league investigation, joins Pete Rose (betting scandal), former St. Louis Cardinals scouting director Chris Correa (hacking scandal) and former New York Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia (three violations of drug policy) on baseball’s permanently ineligible list.

Alex Anthopoulos, who left the Dodgers’ front office this month to take Coppolella’s job, must rebuild the Braves without those prospects and with these additional sanctions: The Braves forfeit their third-round pick in the 2018 draft, they cannot sign an international player for more than a $10,000 bonus in the 2019-20 window and their bonus pool for international signings in the 2020-21 window is cut by 50%.

The Dodgers, Angels and other teams have exceeded their bonus pools for signing international amateurs at various times, well aware that the result would be a severe reduction on what they could offer international amateurs for the subsequent two years.

What the Braves did in 2015, according to a statement from Commissioner Rob Manfred, was to evade the pool limits by saying the prospects had signed for less than what the Braves actually paid. The difference was made up, Manfred said, by taking money from the purported bonus of a player not subject to those limits.
