There have been some comments coming from the AB camp in that regard. To the effect that they recognise that Portugal are effectively a bunch of amateurs and will 'take it easy on them' (although not in so many words).

Will be interesting to see what is meant by this and how it's put into practise.

^told a mate that if I were the Portgual coach, I would seek legal advice as to whether or not I could be held liable if anything happened to one of the players. If I were him, I would just forfeit the game - much safer

Nope, it's all good. Implied consent you see*.

*Although there is some element of doubt as to if this would cover internal injuries from being shunted so hard in the scrums that your small intestine tries to vacate through the orifice normally reserved for waste materials.

^ I understand that at least one of their players is a doctor in real life, which might be handy

Scotland of course, it's just that we've been shite for years, although have had a big improvement since Hadden took over as coach, i don't like to talk about it. Although having watched all the matches so far, out of all the Northern Hemisphere established teams, Scotland are the only ones who have put in any type of performance, i know it was only against Portugal but so what. England were shite against the seppos, Wales were shite against Canada, Ireland were a fooking joke against Namibia and France were woeful against my tip to be the suprise team of the tournament and make the semis the Argies.

However as things look at the moment, and i haven't been so upbeat about a Scottish rugby team for a long while, and i do now expect us to beat Italy comfortably, landing a quarter final spot against either France or more likely Argentina and i just got a good feeling about Scotland.

I think we should treat Argentina as a northern team, seeing as they all play in Europe.

Well it looks like Portugal will be playing their "B" side too.AB coach actually made a comment about not playing too hard, especially at scrum time as somebody could get badly hurt. The problem is that an AB will prolly get injured.

read some interesting arguments on gwladrugby as to why many Argies don't want to be a part of an extended tri-nations.

they mostly play in Europe, in fact i think they all do.
contracts would be less forthcoming if they were involved in a few months of international fixtures at the other side of the globe.
that and the fact that buenos Aires is nearer to Edingburgh than it is to Sydney.

Somehow that almost always get interpreted as the NZRFU shafting the Argies because they have no desire to 'grow the game'.

    Burger faces ban against England

Losing Burger would be a huge setback to the team

South African flanker Schalk Burger could miss Friday's World Cup match with England after being cited for a dangerous tackle in the win over Samoa.
Burger was not sin-binned for the tackle on Junior Polu but the incident was picked up the citing commissioner.
A statement on the tournament website said he faces a disciplinary hearing "as soon as reasonably practicable."
England's Phil Vickery could also miss the game. He faces a hearing on Tuesday for kicking USA centre Paul Emerick.
The loss of Burger would be a huge setback to South Africa.
The 24-year-old Stormers player was named world player of the year in 2004 and missed half of the 2006 season after suffering a serious neck injury. He had to have two vertebrae fused together after suffering what was described at the time as a potentially career-threatening injury in a 29-15 win over Scotland in June 2006. After he was ruled out, the Springboks lost their next five matches.

Well Marmite, your wish has come true. Absolutley ridiculous, he was challenging for the ball and conected the Samoan by mistake. Anyway used to this one sided handling of Springboks; happens all the time in S14 & 3N.

See Vickery also got bannned for his 'intentional' trip (only 2 weeks). Seems we are even for Friday. Also see that Johnny is out. Not good for England!

    the English look screwed....

    England's injury problems increase

    Tuesday, 11 September 2007 17:43
England's World Cup campaign is in danger of total meltdown - just three days before their biggest Test match since 2003.

The crisis-hit England camp look set to lose both fly-halves - Olly Barkley and Jonny Wilkinson - for Friday night's showdown against South Africa at the Stade de France.

    What if?
