I think Reading have a fair bit of cash though.

Hi All.
Newbie, first post, It is great to see that you have a section devoted to Championship football, but I fear I won't be here that long as my lifetime ambition of seeing Reading in the Premiership is about to be realised.
13 games left, six wins needed and that is only providing Leeds and Watford win all their remaining 13 games. If they stumble it could all be over by the end of March.
Will we survive? I think so, we have been playing our reserve side for all Cup Competitions and they have done well, holding WBA before beating them in a replay and only loosing out to Birmingham after a replay, and thats with 8 senior players out for every game. We have strength in depth and Coppell is a very well proven Manager at Preiership level. I think we will need a few new players in the Summer and I can see us getting these from relegated teams. I would dearly LOVE to see Mathew Upson back with us, he was on loan 3 years ago and did a fantastic job, helping us reach the play offs. here will be a lot of players who will not settle for Championship Fottie when their teams get relegated, so those will be the selling clubs. Leeds, Southampton, Norwich, et al have nearly a whole new squads of players, and the Championship is a very tough league to get out off (but very easy to get back into)
Anyway its great to see you discussing Reading, I hope I am as confident after we play Sheffield United away on Tuesday, any result and I feel the Championship is ours as Leeds play watford so someone will drop points
Cheers for reading and cheers for READING

Greetings FozzieBear
went to Reading's ground once - a rare away win for Coventry - 2-1 to Cov. - 2003 I beleive.
Still , can't see Cov getting back to the premiership in a hurry - at least they have a new ground though now. (haven't visited it yet as I've been in Thailand since before it opened).
Am I right in thinking that Reading have a fair bit of cash?
Hmmm, we have to go back 34 years before we reach the 'good ol' days'.Originally Posted by poolcleaner
Thank you both for your welcome. To answer the two questions posed to me:
Firstly Steve Coppell attained "God Like" status at Crystal Palace, yes he got them relegated during his three spells as Manager, but he also got them Promoted and to an FA Cup Final. When Reading played at Selhurst Park last month he was given a standing ovation by the home fans. I think they LIKE him
Secondly Reading DO NOT have a load of cash. Our most expensive player cost us 1m and that was Leroy Litta. The Chairman has gone on record as saying he will listen to offers for the club WHEN we have attained promotion as his pockets are not deep enough to sustain us in the Premier League, although we have some very good players we still need a few more.
I was at that game when Coventry beat us 2-1. we went a goal up as I recall, I think your winner came from that bloke who is now in Jail, Ginger guy who also played for WBA.
I began supporting ManU 18 months before they went down.Originally Posted by Marmite the Dog
Not a bad thing for Man U, football in general and the otter clubs who have been in and around the old 'First' division for some time.
It's almost impossible to imagine it could happen again but history shows it is possible and look at Leeds. How much did they spend on players? They were in the Chapions League. They are the only team other than Chelski and blackburn to have won a title in the last 23 years(?)
How long have the likes of Everton and Villa been flirting with relegation.
How long did Coventry have in Div 1 before they succumbed.
And now Wigan. How long ago did they join the league and before them Wimbledon.
It may be a long, long time before Luton win the Championship but It isn't impossible.
Football. I fucking love it!
Just don't look at the tipping comp ths week. Fark!!
Luton or more than likelt WATFORD will win the Championship next year.
It is far easier to get up with players you have played with for a long time than players you do'nt.
most teams that get relegated from the Premiership have to sell half of their players to survive and replace them with unknowns.
I can remember when both Luton and watford were in the old First Divison
bear in mind that it is apparant that all the clubs that will be relegated from the Premiership this season have spent no longer than 4 years in it.
I don 't think that Man u, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea will EVER go down again.
But I could be wrong
Let's hope so...Originally Posted by FozzieBear

Do you want this post moving to the 'Gay Seppos in Kevlar' thread?Originally Posted by Storekeeper

Sheffield United 1 Reading 1
great result for us.
6 wins needed now, we can afford 6 defeats!!
Coventry 2 - 1 Sheffield Wednesday
back to 11th now - good result for us - we'll be above Luton soon!
well done City.Originally Posted by colourful-era

KEEP hold of Aidie, he's a real professional, bit old, but then you need "Wise" men to keep the yougsters on their toes.
Good luck, at least now you don't have to worry about the R word
No-one seems to have mentioned the
Luton 3 : Cardiff 3 result.
2 points lost for both of us there Marmite.
Viva Lution!!!
I always forget the midweek games.Originally Posted by ChiangMai noon
Not a bad result for either team, but you're right about lost opportunities there.

3-3 Cardiff v. Luton - that would have been a great game to have seen together with a few beers.....anyone get Championship football on satellite?
The Yarpy sat sometimes shows the games. You have to go somewhere like Wall Street, Bus Stop.... to watch them.Originally Posted by colourful-era

Next games - today and tomorrow.
*today*
Luton v. Reading (Marmite v. Fozzie bear)
18/02/06
Plymouth v. Coventry City
Cardiff v. Hull
I went to that fixture last season ,1-1.
travelled all the way down to Plymouth (though I was working in Bristol at the time) - City were 1-0 up most of the game only for an equaliser by Plymouth in the 93rd minute !
