    New free-to-air television agreement

Rugby League fans will be able to watch four live matches each week on free to air television from 2018 as part of a new broadcast rights agreement reached with the Nine Network today.
NRL fans the winners in new television deal
NRL CEO Dave Smith said Channel 9 has secured the rights to screen matches on Thursday, Friday and Saturday during prime time and on Sunday at 4 pm.
The deal, the biggest in Australian free to air television history, is worth up to $925 million and will take effect from 2018.
Mr Smith said the number of live games shown on free to air television would increase from two at present to four.
“So there will be more live and free Rugby League on television – and that is what the fans want,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said the agreement would also help secure the long term financial future of the game.
“And we still have simulcast rights, pay tv, New Zealand and international television rights to be negotiated.
“So the future of the game is in great shape.”

Storm back in the winners circle.

Helped along by a hat trick from Munster. Let's hope he is prepared to wait until Slater retires, for his shot at the big time. He is only Twenty and coming along in leaps and bounds while standing in for Billy.

Matt Duffie has returned to top grade in scintillating form after five long years of injury after injury.

Damn it was good so see the boys beat that grub Bird.

An undeniable talent who would be a good addition to the Kiwis.

Just needs to stay fit. Jeez he has a bad run.

It is good to see that both player and club kept faith with each other.

^when he scored his first try last weekend his team mates congratulated him like he'd just scored the match winner in a Grand Final, it meant as much to them as it did to him. Forget exactly what they said he'd been through, something like 4 knee and 2 shoulder reconstructions!.

Anyone sane would've said fuck this, I'm taking up poker.

It should be an interesting few weeks , the contenders all playing each other apart from St George who seem to have the easiest run home, the rest play at least 2 other contenders.

Things didn't start too well in the Shire tonight as the Storms bus broke down on the way to Redmondis Stadium and the boys had to catch cabs to get there on time.

They should be laying on Limos for the return home as the Storm put on a champagne performance tonight to hold the Sharks tryless while putting thirty points on their own side of the ledger.

Cameron Smith had his usual captains game and played the ref smartly whereas that grub Gallen pissed and moaned all night as usual and did his side no favours. As expected his just as grubby mate Ennis was niggling Cronk all game and at one time the two nearly came to blows.

Young Munster had another great game filling in for Billy while Duffy crossed the line again.

Congrats to Kevin proctor on his 150 th appearance.

The win puts Storm up to 4 th but our run to the semis is tough. We should account for the Knights next week but our last two games are the Cowboys and the Broncos. Semi final games both of those.

He may still be if he cannot make Fox Sport pay through the nose for the remaining NRL games...it seems the jury is out on that one...personally I think Murdoch is on a hiding to nothing over the AFL tv thing...AFL has always been a live match experience...league has always been a TV game since the 1960's in England...nothing can change that...but there are some wise heads in the NRL concerned that Smith may have shot his bolt too soon...what they seem to forget is that with NZ added the TV ratings match AFL all the way...and there is no way Kiwis are going to buy into a game they cannot understand and is boring to watch on TV...so IMO the NRL ratings are as safe as houses
