Brazil looked very dodgy at the back. Might prove their undoing...

dante was an accident waiting to happen all season at bayern, and the defensive frailties of luiz are pretty glaring.

brazil have almost always had at least one dodgy defender, though, and they seem to have done ok over the years.

Should have been a card for the diver not a penalty. FIFA said a few years ago they were going to crack down on the acting for fouls and penalties I guess that's been suspended for the home team..

People tipping a team other than brazil to win it may have overlooked this aspect.

More goodness in a grape than in a plastic watermelon.

Croatia might have had a chance with a better goal keeper.

I thought he could have done better for all 3 goals and should even have saved the (laughable and quite poorly executed) penalty - he had both hands behind the ball.

A draw would have been a fair result.

Agreed, he was one of the worst next to the referee. Took over 2 sec. for that big fellow to drop to the ground trying to deflect the ball.
Mexico-Brazil should be a lot better.

True but why is the grape gene so prevalent in LOS? Or to rephrase the question: why are plastic watermelons so popular with women in the West?

It didn't look like a dive to me, honestly. First of all the Croatian defender had both hands on the Brazilian's shoulders and looked like he pulled pretty hard. The Brazil guy didn't fall at that exact moment but he definitely lost balance while he was fighting for the ball, it looked like. I'd like to see it again but it certainly didn't look like a flagrant dive nor a flagrant foul. So the call looked about right but didn't deserve the yellow card.

It was a blatant dive and he frankly should have been taken into the dressing room and beaten to within 2.54cm of his life.

Unbelieveable that anoyone could see that as anything else other than a dive.

Scolari is the only bloke that has said it was a penalty...... we have a celebrity on the board!!!

If it's not a flagrant foul you don't give a penalty in the World Cup it's a non foul and play goes on.. Too much at stake, a call like that is a game changer.

Mexico has to work it's way out of group play before this match-up would ever take place - not guaranteed as that's a tough group.

...or was that a typo. Meant Mexico-Cameroon?

Looks like the Kaiser has something to hide

Franz Beckenbauer banned by Fifa for 90 days

Fifa has provisionally banned World Cup winner Franz Beckenbauer from all footballing activities for 90 days for failing to co-operate with the Qatar 2022 corruption inquiry.

Beckenbauer, who won the World Cup with West Germany as a player and as a coach, had been asked to help with a Fifa ethics investigation.

The 68-year-old was part of the Fifa executive committee which voted to give the tournament to Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022.

He left Fifa's executive committee in 2011 but remained on their football committee.

Sorry, but you boys are dead wrong...The referee did a very good job in the match...

The Croation defender was a bloody fool to hang onto the back of the striker and pull him him down...The replay clearly showed him trying to retract his stupid mistake...

That striker was turning to volley the ball at the goal and was denied the chance...

    SIMPLE...(buncha armchair wankers...heh)...

Exclamation Spoiler Alert!! Spain V Netherlands

Netherlands handling Spain 5-1 with about 10 minutes left with injury time.. Quite a surprise.. Didn't see goal #'s 1-2 for Netherlands but 3 and 4 were definitely goalie errors, #5 was nice run up the center strictly out paced the defender.. So far goal tending leaving a lot to be desired in this cup..

Final!! Almost 6-2, 2 goals denied by the defense on both ends in the final minutes. Spain looked terrible, very lethargic and lack of application, many costly mental errors.

Yep...Shit happens...Remember being on both sides of those scores...Still, a loss is a loss by any amount...

Watch for Spain to come back like a lion...Unless their fat coach is indeed too fat to fly...

    Well done, Holland!!!...

    I hate the dutch team
I hate that garish orange kit
i hate that they are chimp heavy
I hate that I was watching a World Cup game in an Amsterdam bar, maybe in the 1980s and they were losing and switched the TV off .,,

we will just have to hope those plastic poms AKA the Aussies will get lucky
