Dud of a fight. Mostly due to a fucking awful referee. I say 'awful' but he was sticking to a script dictated by Joshua's camp, immediately jumping in to separate any clinching or chance for Parker to get some close work / body shots in, once past AJ's jab. Normal 'referee stuff' y'know, like loose tape on gloves, hitting after the break, holding and hitting etc, completely missed by this inept fuckwit; who normally should not even be officiating at an ABA boy's club card. -You just see the magnitude of a fight like this, and then wonder why you've never seen this fucking ref before and just think.. "Oh, hello..."

Parker occasionally did well, looking fast and very durable. But just lacking a bit of desire and will to go after Joshua. And that's what separated great fighters from also-rans; they want to go after the other guy and fuck him up..
Having said that, there should be an official inquiry as to how that fucking referee got appointed to this fight. Normal Boxing Bullshit.

Since the decay and retirement of Klitschko this fight is just further proof of how shallow the talent pool is in the heavyweight division. I do not think I have seen it this bad in all my years of watching the fights.

Disagree, Klitschko was a very boring fighter to me... I like Wilder, and I think Wilder Joshua will be a great fight that is going to be made. Now just get a decent referee...

Klitschko may have been boring at the end of his career but he would have beat Joshua easily in his prime and I doubt that Wilder would have fared much better. My point was that the fighters in the division do no stack up well historically right now.

Parker didn't disgrace himself and will still be a contender. Maybe Dillian Whyte if the Povetkin fight falls through.

Even Klitscko didn't make it to 12 rounds with AJ, so Parker can be pleased with that, at least. Nobody's gone the full 12 before.

Klitschko was a shell of his former self by the time he fought AJ. He would have handled him easily in his prime.

Agree that K was only a shell of his former self. Not sure I agree that K would have handled AJ easily. Handled, but not easily.
Nonetheless, Parker did well to go 12.

Mostly in agreement. Anthony Joshua has been brilliantly managed and promoted since winning Olympic gold, and they knew a faded Klitschko would pad out a less than stellar resume of opponents since 2012. He has though, knocked out everyone put in front of him so far, until Parker. He ain't no Lennox Lewis, though.
The big guys in the US would rather get paid more money and less risk in Basketball, US Football etc than boxing right now. It may be a long time before we get another Tyson, or Ali. -Charismatic legendary boxers that were defined by the competition they had in their careers.
Nowadays, the heavier guys in boxing are coming from the Eastern Europe and UK.

This is what I am afraid of as boxing desperately needs a superstar as it is in a state of decline I think and as you have mentioned the other sports in America do siphon off the talent in.

Heavyweight boxing needs Tyson Fury clowning around, calling everyone out. Maybe when he's fully fit and has despatched a couple of warm-ups he can resume those antics.

Wilder's made an idiot of himself throwing empty threats about while safely across the pond. He wasn't permitted to climb in the ring the other night by the tv company he was gonna work for.

A real confident rebel hell bent on confrontation would have attended anyway and done just that.

^Would like to see Fury get back in the mix again. He is good entertainment and a very skillful boxer, but can't seem to keep it together for long. Pity, as he could probably beat AJ and Wilder together on the same night, but his only nemesis is himself.

Fury's second fight with Dereck Chisora was such a one sided beating it had Fury appealing to the ref.

Chisora was beaten very controversially & narrowly by Dillian Whyte last year (I had Chisora winning by a point when I scored it) and gave him hell.

Whyte was knocked out by Joshua after a brave effort in 2015

Alvarez twice tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing drug clenbuterol in random urine tests conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association in his hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico, on Feb. 17 and Feb. 20.

What the hell is the guy on.......

^^^Using the "tainted beef" excuse, common to Mexican boxers that get done for doping. Clenbuterol used in sports to cut weight and enhance stamina and oxygen transportation.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clenbuterol

It's a PED, and banned for a reason. Golden Bollocks Canelo is a fucking cheat, full stop.

Current stars to watch out for: Russian KO Machine; Gennady Golovkin at Middleweight, another Russian banger at Light Heavy: Kovalev, can't wait 'til he fights Adonis Stevenson. There are some great fights getting made these days, as boxing is under pressure maybe from MMA, and criticism of the ranking organizations and fight promotions camps.

    Isn't Kovalev 38?

Boxing is a harder sport than MMA so no pressure sport wise. Viewing figures maybe.
