Lizzie Armitstead won Britain's first medal of the 2012 Olympics as Netherlands' Marianne Vos claimed gold in the women's road race on Day Two.

Armitstead took the silver with Russian Olga Zabelinskaya third in a thrilling rain-soaked 140km race that ended on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.

Zabelinskaya instigated a breakaway with 25km to go and Armitstead and pre-race favourite Vos went with her.

Armitstead attacked Vos on The Mall but the Dutch rider had too much power.
"I'm so glad I committed to that break," said the 23-year-old from Otley in Yorkshire. "I was umming and aahing but I'm really happy I went with it. I should've jumped earlier in the sprint, but never mind.

"Vos was always the one to watch so I was following her around. We both got in an early break, but I thought it was too early so I waited."

I had to have a lie down today, too much for an old guy like me.
Gymnastics, free-diving and now the beach volleyball, never seen so many tight bodies in such a short space of time wearing next to nothing.
If this all carries on then the hospitals near me will get jammed up.

GBR and Brazil had a right old ding dong in the Star class sailing, it's a photo finish......

Brazil won it by 0.8 of a second thanks to real last minute gust!

Woww this is nice! All the schedules have been posted like a calendar. Now at least it is crystal clear to view the games according to the dates. Even the olympics ground is looking scintillating. I wish I could watch these games live.

I don’t see why anyone would watch it anywhere else (but youtube). You can change the channel/event with just a click while the primary event you’re watching is breaking or getting ready for the next competitors.

Probably because it isn't available in all regions.

Many football fans attending Team GB's match against the United Arab Emirates at Wembley were left hungry and thirsty after tills stopped accepting card payments.
Spectators were told that they could not use Visa - the only credit or debit cards permitted because of their status as an official partner of the Olympics - and must use cash.
A Visa spokesperson said: "We understand that Wembley's systems failed and therefore they were only accepting cash at the food and beverage kiosks.
"This cash only decision was made by Wembley management and not Visa. We are working with the Wembley team to help them fix this as soon as possible."
London 2012 organisers Locog also confirmed the problem, which came as police confirmed they had lost a set of keys while carrying out a security check before the Games.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan police said: "On the morning of Tuesday 24 July officers on Olympic police operations at Wembley stadium reported that internal security keys, being used by them as part of searches, were missing."


Games organisers said that the relevant locks had since been changed and security had not been compromised.
Tens of thousands of people were at Wembley to see them secure a 3-1 win over the UAE, with goals from Ryan Giggs, Scott Sinclair and Daniel Sturridge. Earlier at the stadium, Uruguay had lost 2-0 to Senegal.
Max Gore, 27, from Shepherd's Bush, west London, said: "The queues were ridiculous.
"I asked the person behind the bar if there were any cash machines and they said some had been taken out for the Olympics.
"I had to trek around the stadium to find one."
Mr Gore added: "The problem went on for the whole evening. There were two games and they couldn't get it fixed."
Ahead of the Games, Visa requested that a number of cash machines at Olympic venues that worked on the Link system which permits all credit and debit cards be removed and replaced with ones that could only be used by Visa customers.
The UK Payments Council said 27 dispensers had been replaced with just eight Visa ATMs.
