^Yeah. Caught that earlier this week. Looks interesting, especially with Anthony Hopkins starring.
Wonder if Yul Brynner's old character in the original film will get a reprise?

The plot is far more complex than that of the film.

The nearest to it is "the man in black", played by Ed Harris.

Watched swallows and amazons (1974 original) snuggled up with my little-uns while an autumnal rain spotted the window - it was a nice moment, and a good family flick if you've got kids under 10 who can bear to tear rthemselves away from my little pony for an hour or two.

"National Treasure", a UK Channel 4 offering featuring Robbie Coltrane playing a celebrity in the twilight of his career who gets accused of historical sexual abuse. Excellent acting from Coltrane and his long suffering wife (Julie Walters).

Very topical as quite a few celebrities have been charged/imprisoned over the last couple of years.

4 episodes, 3 of which are available now (last episode airs 11th October). Download here:

I tried fixing this post, but it's still fucked.

Watched first 4 episodes yesterday. Pretty good, The ET references are a bit cheesy but that apart pretty gripping and well worth a download.

    A doco or a movie ?
I don't know, but quite engrossing.
Fly on the wall stuff of an American Poli collapsing.
Really quite enlightening for someone who's not American.
    Good stuff.

Not sure how anyone could categorise it as anything other than a documentary.

    See the documentary thread.

Brilliant. Particularly for anyone who served anywhere in the 60-70s.
Historically interesting but, more to the point, it was for me an accurate portrayal of the chaos of combat.
    Strongly recommended.

If you haven't seen it, watch the 2000 movie first. Quite a tidy sort of time travel/detective flick with Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel.
ok i watched the movie first
that was ok to good. even if a liitle cliched and schmaltzie

    Now the series -
I imagined it would be be an update of the film - the next generation or somthing, but no, it's an utter shite retelling of the exact same story line, with just a few character changes, same serial killer etc /
    Worse
theres a young woman, mid 20's who is somehow already a murder detective ...

plus the predictable black chief of police.

An out of place rock music sound track - eg Oaisis from manchester...

Big, but totally irrelevant words banded about like. string theory and spookey entangelment , - there isnt even the Aurora borealis storm as a reason the ham radio works across time.

Having said all that I've fallen in love the star of the show
that old radio - oh how those lovely valves glow !

Now I'm lusting after a modern valve / tube music amplifier

    or this one

Yeah I watched s01e01 and 02 on a flight a few weeks ago and it was enough for me to download the rest when I got home. Like all good series - it gets better as it goes along.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

    Thanks for that.

Just watched on Netflix, not a story I'd heard of before.

They were very hard done by.

Black Mirror fans will be pleased to hear S03 is up on Netflix, and starting to appear on torrents.

I think I'll wait for a decent HD file of the whole thing, so if anyone spots one, do post it here.

Another one I would not have noticed but for this:

In his review of Amazon’s Goliath, The Times‘ Mike Hale critiqued the “needlessly complicated structure of the initial episodes,” especially Billy Bob Thornton‘s character’s investigation of a suspicious suicide.

“The nature of the case McBride has taken on… is revealed slowly and cryptically, a bit of writerly delayed gratification that keeps your attention but isn’t particularly rewarding,” he wrote. “Then, presumably because the first episode leaves so much unanswered, the next jumps back in time to fill in the history of the case — and when the second episode ends, the story hasn’t even caught up to where it started.”

“The narrative juggling has the feel of stretching — of starting with a story suited for an episode of traditional TV or maybe a feature film and extending it to more than nine hours. Final judgment on that will have to wait until all 10 episodes are available,” Hale concluded.

But as The Times admitted in a correction, there was a reason why that plotline seemed to jump across time and space:

    Correction: October 18, 2016

A television review on Friday about the new Amazon series “Goliath” included an inaccurate discussion of the show’s plot structure. The critic mistakenly watched the first two episodes out of order.

I've been watching American Horror Story: Hotel (it's s6 I think?).

It's a bit silly but I enjoy the anthology aspect of it. One thing that has been a bit of a pleasant surprise is that the stupidly named Lady Gaga can actually act a bit. More than a bit even.

Start date: Where and when is it on?

The new show will be made exclusive to customers of Amazon Prime, an online streaming service similar to Netflix and as promised will be delivered to our screens this autumn.

Want an exact date? Oh, go on then. Clarkson, Hammond and May will be back in action in weekly episodes on Amazon Prime beginning Friday, November 18.
The Grand Tour Amazon Prime's Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May's follow-up show everything you need to know
