Well behind the curve here, but just started on "Gomorrah" SE1, the Italian organized crime series. A couple of ep's in, this is a full on adrenaline-charged caper that blows away the silly old "cosa nostra" mythology of a bunch of decent old well-dressed gents that occasionally have to do the odd bit of nasty business..
Apparently, the writer Roberto Sivioni was a bit too accurate in depicting what real Naples gangsters get up to, and has had to have real-life police protection for the last decade.
Best series I've watched in the last few years, imo. Excellent.

^ Yup. Fantastic. One of the best series out there.

There's also a movie based on the same story, with the same name.

You'd also probably like Love/Hate. A surprisingly brilliant, surprisingly Irish gangster series.

    Anybody seen Boardwalk Empire?

Looks like it might be good, but don't know why I've never even heard of it before today...

It's brilliant stuff and the best bit is they finished it properly and didn't keep it going for the sake of it.

Lots of T&A and gratuitous violence.

Was tired of it by the end of S02, put on s03 a few months later and didn't get past a few episodes. Gets kinda old after a while.

Pity, as I wanted to see how much they developed Capone and Lucky Luciano's characters.

Did you binge watch? I lose interest easy if it's not on tap and have to wait for an upcoming season; fex had several attempts at GoT, did the first two seasons, then a break, an episode or two of the 3rd by which time I didn't have a clue who was who or what was going on, deleted what I had up to date, tried again from 101 a couple of years later, got through I think 3-4 seasons and couldn't get back into S5 after a break, next attempt was determined to focus, reached about the same, didn't work, finally did the right thing, scratched bum till 806 arrived, dled and watched the lot.

Easier to give advice than take your own, because much the same happened with Billions, Suits, Breaking Bad, Peaky and others, even the Wire ffs; once interrupted could never get back into them. Only works (for me) when they've packed up and gone home, then into binge mode; sure you miss out on speculation/critique and raving, but so what.

Trial by Fire: Drama based on true story and a fair argument for the abolition of capital punishment.

Texas. CT Willingham loses his 3 kids in a home fire, bit of a character, investigators decide he did it and focus on proving it, ends up convicted after what can fairly be described as a set piece, and a decade or so on death row before being executed by injection.

Well meaning woman turns up halfway, unclear how she gets involved, unravels some lies and inconsistencies, more than enough for an appeal, retrial and acquittal, but no match for those putting career before the justice they are charged to protect.

Not a 'death row' drama more the dangers of unaccountable authority and how easily public perception can be swayed, but blood can simmer in parts, good acting and worth a couple of hours.

Don't switch off when the credits roll, it includes an actual news clip of then-Texas governor Rick Perry; as a true story with a known outcome, they might have given viewers the drop on a corrupt system and its parts right at the beginning.

7 here, a bit more than imdb.

Boardwalk Empire was only 12 episodes a season and 8 in the final one.

I think that's why the material wasn't too padded out.

I could spend that watching Gretchen Mol naked.

Just finished "Der Pass" (Pagan Peak), an eight part Sky production for German television (with English subtitles). Set in the Alp region between Germany and Austria, a series of bodies found in the area requires a joint Police task force to investigate. There's the obvious similarity with "The Bridge", though story plot is completely different. I believe that it's just started in the UK, though all eight episodes here:

    and trailer:

Blimey, how many more variations can they do on that?

How about a dead body found midway between Molineux and The Hawthorns?

There's a scandihooligan series called Moscow Noir that looks interesting, but they've only put Ep2-8 up with Subs.

    https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9011118/

If anyone spots Ep1 let me know please.

    Cheers.
