Searching for sugarman is a great documentary about this 60's singer.
Without spoiling it it turns out he was virtually an unknown in America but was huge in Sth Africa ( and Australia as well- we all had his albums). Rumour was he committed suicide but some South African music fans and journos go on a quest to find out what really happened to him and it turns out he is alive and well working construction jobs in Detroit.
What happens is magical, even if your not a fan of his music. Certainly one of the best documentaries I have seen in a long time.
I am so going to get a copy of Cold Fact!
Fahn Cahn's
here's a longer and very early interview with Tim Curry about Rocky Horror, recorded for UK TV with a very hip to be square interviewer.
Also Meatloaf on the same in two parts.
British viewers will enjoy this.
The Young Ones (Documentary)
What if it were possible to turn back time? Could it be that we all have the power to think ourselves young again? That's the extraordinary claim of an experiment first conducted 30 years ago which the BBC is now re-staging. Six well-loved celebrities in their 70s and 80s - Liz Smith, Lionel Blair, Dickie Bird, Sylvia Syms, Derek Jameson and Kenneth Kendall - have agreed to spend one week living as though it were their heyday - 1975 - to see if re-living your youth can make you young again.
Their country retreat has been lovingly restored to be an authentic 1970s home, but it's not just the house that's had a '70s makeover. The celebrities will be wearing the clothes of the 1970s, they'll be cooking the favourite dishes of the time and their pastimes will include 70s TV, 70s video games and favourite LPs from the decade. Overseeing the experiment will be the BBC's man of science, Dr Michael Mosley, and Harvard Professor Ellen Langer, who conducted the original experiment.
A BBC 1 programme, presented by Mariella Frostrup.
Part 1/3 :
(Aired 14th September 2010)
Celebrities Liz Smith, Lionel Blair, Dickie Bird, Sylvia Syms, Derek Jameson and Kenneth Kendall settle into the past, hoping they will achieve their goals to turn back the clock, and within the first 24 hours there are already extraordinary changes.
Part 2/3 :
(Aired 15th September 2010)
The experiment that sets out to prove that youth is a state of mind continues with each of the celebrity volunteers taking a physical trip down memory lane to relive their respective heydays. For Lionel Blair this involves an emotional visit to the London Palladium, while at Lord's Cricket Ground Dickie Bird hopes to bring the man he used to be back to life. But just as the experiment seems to be working, a surprise visit shakes things up.
Part 3/3 :
(Aired 16th September 2010)
A dinner party gives the celebrities a final chance to test how far they have come and find out whether being immersed in the world of their heyday has helped them turn back the clock. Liz Smith, Lionel Blair, Dickie Bird, Kenneth Kendall, Sylvia Syms and Derek Jameson bid farewell to 1975, before the programme reveals whether the experiment has given them a new lease of life.

Thanks, Imminent. I'm downloading American Meth and Craigslist Joe right now.
avoid that documentary, extremely lame and boringOriginally Posted by The Ghost Of The Moog
I am not even sure why you would go through the graphics details when it involves a white trash american fucking a trailer trash pig whore. The comments were dreadful and the whole affair was sad and boring. Shit materials for the Sun or "A Current Affair", the US equivalent on TV.
Nope. But I have seen Paradise Lost II on the same subject. I may have to wait awhile before dipping into that subject matter again.Originally Posted by FailSafe
I thought the same thing (having seen all three of the Paradise Lost trilogy) however I found it to be a fresh perspective. All has a certain depth of detail to it that the trilogy never quite seemed to manage.Originally Posted by Humbert

It never really explains why, with all the support behind them, that they didn't go for a new trial. They would have own hands down and opened it up for lawsuits and rewards.
The Alford plea just didn't seem to make sense.
I disagree, they copped to the Alford plea to put an immediate end to it. You could see that Baldwin in particular was against the idea but given that a new trial could have been years in the making and they'd already spent over 18yrs in prison it was the pragmatic choice.
Plus I guess the chance, no matter how minor, that they could have been railroaded again probably played a part too.
Anyone have a link for Searching for Sugar Man?
Try this one: Searching.For.Sugar.Man.2012.LIMITED.DOCU.DVDRip.X viD-MARGiN (download torrent) - TPB
it's not particularly well seeded but I got it down pretty quickly.
This other one is better seeded and better resolution too if that's your bag (much larger file though obviously): Searching.for.Sugar.Man.2012.720p.BRRip.x264.AC3-JYK (download torrent) - TPB
^gracias amigo.
Sound it Out. A very good documentary about the last independent record shop in Teesside. Mostly about a selection of (variously weird) customers, the film shows how much social capital is tied in these kinds of places and (implicitly) how much communities lose when chains take over the high street.
The Artist is Present. Partly a review of the life of performance artist Marina Abramaovic and partly about her three-month performance at the Museum of Modern Art (she sat in silence eight hours a day and gazed at anyone who wanted to sit opposite her). Interesting from the human angle but a little light on what underlies it all.
