Sorry not Tai on sunday but Luk Pat and another young Nopporn singer along with quanjit sirajan a very famous performer of lam tad and pleng choi, think she will be singing pleng lair. She has been in many films, not a lukting singer.
Pumpuangs son nong Phet has been in the news the last two week. She left 50 million baht in her will and the family have be arguing about it for many years-all sorted now apart from her son and his dad. All kicked off again two weeks ago with nong Phet accussing his dad of sexual assault since he was 12 years old, his dad responded with threatening to sue him and having him decalred mentally ill (can you sue a mentally ill person?)
Before she died Pumpuang recorded a tape stating her husband had mis treated her and neglected her, her husband admits only taking the son to see her in Hospital 3 times, despite her being there for months. The tape was played to nong Phet by his aunt when her was 18, four years ago. He now says his dad was responsible for her death, quite an on going soap opera. All this was in the Rath and a lot more besides.

Figure it won't be long until a family member decides it's time to sell her life story rights to someone who wants to cash in on her fame. Sorry bastards the lot.

^^ I caught part of the Sunday show at Lumphini. Thanks for the tip.

I thought Quanjit Sirajan was impressive and liked her style. The one bit of traditional singing that the young woman Nong ______ (aged 17) did was also quite good.

I liked the venue and will make it a regular outing for a while to see if I can't start finding out more about what's going on around Bangkok and Nonthaburi. And as I said before, any info you have and wouldn't mind posting here would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it's Burphan of Top line diamond, very popular. Strangely the 'real luktung' of 94.5 last week saw 3 songs for life singers and without mike piromporn would have been all songs for life, don't have to get there early but not sure if I will go as not keen on cing.Cant remember who else was on when you went maybe luk pat from nopporn, she is 17. Yes it was luk pat that week with the even younger temo patra, think she is 12. They were only on the radio part but will be on again soon. Did write something under TD links you might be interested in.

^ Yeah. I caught that show. Thought Mike was great, in spite of the Maoist dance routines.

The "Pok Pok" woman was OK, too.

And thanks for the piece under TD Links, very informative and well-written. How have you become so well-informed? It's pretty obvious that you have a passionate attachment to this music.

Pok Pok woman? I think you mean salee kanitha? she was on the week before, very nice lady. Mike invited us to his restaurant tonight but the mrs had to be elsewhere. It is on lad phrao soi 71 if you are ever in the area, last time he even went to get us a taxi afterwards, very genuine guy and sings there when he is around.
Of course some of them are not so friendly but the relationship between singers and fans can be very close, much more so than any other musical style, except likay. Two famous singers bought me flowers for MY birthday this year, others might invite fans out for meals, give them lifts to concerts etc. On the other hand some fans can give enormous amounts of money to singers, especially to males. This seems to be an influence from likay which has carried over into luktung in recent years. I tend to support the singers these days who are friendly without monetary gifts being important and who actually care about thier fans. Top of the list are mostly Nopporn Silver Gold singers also Mike, Luknok, Sao Mart and Sunarlee Rachasima. There is a black as well of course! yeah quite a passion I guess.

The only time I have seen it on telly as usually there, were you? caught glimpse of balding falang if that was you. The style is called 'cing' adapting an Englsih word for racing to indicate the non stop speed of the music. At least it was real lam cing apart from cleaning up the dancing for the TV of course. Interesting that most of the other artists songs they included were other Top line diamond singers like sao mart (sao lad phrao) and Chalemrpons Job loy. I always imagine this style would be best enjoyed after taking some sort of drug, or downing half a dozen changs. Morlam purists largely despise cing as vulgar and crude, but it certainly is popular among issan audiences but still cannot compete with the wider popularity of luk tung. Good to see a cing act on the TV though as it's quite a rarity.
Pity it's back to phua chee wit next week with nu meter and lung gai.

I was there and I shave my head so could easily be mistaken for a balding farang.

I also thought it sounded like real cing, just because some I've heard sounds like cheesy rock with a mor lam tinge whereas they sounded liked pumped up mor lam. I liked the show and the atmosphere was great: lots of dancing, enough lam vong style to make me feel I was in a foreign country. I think the female singer's patter was cleaned up even more than the dancing; she projected a particularly crude sexuality that I found attractive, which was strange given that I'm usually put off by that.

We're going to skip next week on account of the lack of enthusiasm for phua chee wit round our place.

Any tips on any upcoming mor lam/luk tung shows around Bangkok? My wife would dearly love to see Siriporn.

Here is a Jintara site that does a fair job in listing her upcoming concerts/appearances. Not always current however.

Not current indeed, started in Dec 2001 and was good for a number of years, these days almost nothing is ever put on it. Even if you phone her manager/husband you are not likely to get concert dates. She has one coming up with Mangpor and Air Sachawadee, don't know where yet.

I was told they do not put things on there for tax reasons.

^Could be. May also be why it is so hard to find other websites which show up coming events.

Bird doesn't seem to be worried about tax issues.

It's in the morning and private do anyway found out today, so that's out. Went to the 94.5 concert after all and the radio section was very good, pity they had to spoil things with R Siam singers. Anyway at the back of the night bazzar there is a concert/fair going until the 12th. The banner says Burphan lam cing there on the 4th and on the 12th Siriporn, Phai and Chalermpon. If they do all turn up I imagaine it will be 2/3 songs each, but you never know. it will not be a full siriporn concert thats for sure. The place is right alongside the main road, think it's Rama 4 opposite a condo called Lumpini park Veiw.
